Summary:
The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) plays a crucial role in supporting the Medical Assistant (MA) Supervisor to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care during clinic hours. This role is integral in training new staff and maintaining clinical operations. The LMA works collaboratively with a healthcare team, including physicians, NP/PAs, patient services representatives, and other medical personnel, to provide comprehensive, non-judgmental patient care. The ideal candidate is highly organized, adept at multitasking, and knowledgeable in all clinical aspects, including the software used in the office. The LMA must manage various tasks efficiently and maintain a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee and train new and existing Medical Assistants and clinical staff, under the supervision of the Office Manager and MA Supervisor.
• Provide backup support for the medical assistant team, performing all functions of a Medical Assistant.
• Monitor daily performance of MAs, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and timely.
• Ensure smooth daily clinical operations and adherence to OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
• Assist the Office Manager with the HIPAA program and maintain compliance.
• Perform random audits of schedules and assist in resolving clinic scheduling issues to improve patient wait times and service quality.
• Counsel employees as directed by the Office Supervisor/Manager.
• Participate in weekly meetings with the Team Leader.
• Assist with projects and tasks assigned by the Office Manager, MA Supervisor, and Director.
• Ensure exam rooms are maintained, cleaned, and restocked with supplies daily, with proper sign-off.
• Assist in interviewing candidates and conduct orientation and training on clinical policies and procedures.
• Assist with clinical procedures as needed, including minor surgeries, and administer treatments such as EKGs, immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and basic lab tests.
• Manage patient callbacks, medication refills, appointment scheduling, and other patient care tasks under the direction of the Provider.
• Serve as a backup for clinical team members and assist with front desk duties as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a Medical Assistant with the ability to oversee and train clinical staff.
• Strong knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and office software.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a team.
• Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA regulations and adherence to compliance standards.
• Must be able to legally work in the USA.
Education and Certification(s)/License(s):
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting or related field preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Additional certifications in relevant clinical skills are a plus.
