PROJECT ENGINEER
1.0 JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
1.1 The basic function of the Project Engineer is to provide technical engineering information to the Superintendent and Project Manager to insure construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, and specifications.
2.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
2.1 The Project Engineer reports to and is directly accountable to the Project Manager.
3.0 REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Education
3.1.1 Required: Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical training and related experience.
3.1.2 Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.
3.2 Licensing / Registration / Certification
3.2.1 N/A
3.3 Experience
3.3.1 Required: None
3.3.2 Preferred: 3 years experience in construction.
3.4 Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
3.4.1 Position requires advanced computer skills.
3.4.2 A working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications.
3.4.3 Knowledge of building material and required standards applicable to discipline.
3.4.4 The ability to perform mathematical calculation either manually or with calculator.
3.4.5 The ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others.
3.5 Physical Requirements
3.5.1 The physical requirements may be stressful even though a majority of the time is sitting. Occasional on site inspections will require walking, climbing ladders and stairs. Body movements of turning the head and torso, bending and flexing the arms, wrists, and fingers are required. The senses required are being able to see and hear and having full power of speech.
3.6 Mental
3.6.1 Must be able to work under stressful deadline situations.
3.6.2 Must be able to communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
3.6.3 Must be able to comprehend business math and interpret data from various sources. Advanced computer skills are desired.
4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS
4.1 Work will be in a climate-controlled office approximately half the time with the other half spent in the field. Workdays will typically be from 8 to 10 hours per day with some early morning or late evening meetings and deadlines.
5.0 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
5.1 Interpret blueprints/drawings for installing materials.
5.2 Research and resolve blueprint/drawings interpretation problems and errors.
5.3 Prepare field design change requisitions and "as built" drawings.
5.4 Prepare all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists, sketches of work already done, material requirement calculations, etc.
5.5 Present blueprint/drawing discrepancies to Project Manager and Superintendent for resolution.
5.6 Prepare documents such as Purchase Orders, Change Orders, etc.
5.7 Perform additional assignments as requested by the Project Manager.
6.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 Supervise and administer field layout and surveying activities.
6.2 Review and issue valid drawings and other engineering documents to field staff.
6.3 Insure all primary, secondary and layout control data comply with engineering standards and are submitted to drafting for on-site detailing.
6.4 Issue, edit and maintain all field engineering books, records, etc., according to project procedures.
6.5 Insure all concrete inspections, sign-offs, etc., are complete and comply with procedures.
6.6 Maintain control of all surveying equipment; Ensure proper care, calibration, documentation, etc., is maintained.
6.7 Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
7.0 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
7.1 Accurately interprets blueprints/drawings.
7.2 Researches and resolves problems and errors in blueprints/drawings.
7.3 Correctly prepares change requisitions and "as built" drawings.
7.4 Prepares required documents in a professional and timely manner.
7.5 Presents blueprint discrepancies to Project Manager and Superintendent.
7.6 Performs additional duties as requested by Project Manager.
7.7 Accurately and timely maintains document control logs.
