Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Human Resources Division has an opening for a HR Solutions Generalist to join the team.
As part of a centralized cross-functional team, the Human Resources Solutions Generalist (HRSG) provides full cycle Human Resources support and guidance to Directors, Managers, Group Leads and employees. The HR Solutions Generalist has a strong understanding in the areas of Talent Management, Compensation and Benefits, Performance Management, Leave Management, and has knowledge in employment policy and laws, and ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements. Experience with Employee Labor Relations, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a plus.
What You Will Do:
- Provide strong and effective HR expertise to support HR colleagues, managers and employees to find appropriate resources for meeting organizational goals.
- Proactively identify opportunities to partner with management to develop and implement innovative and lasting solutions.
- Partner effectively with functional HR groups including, Talent Acquisition, HR Field, Integrated Disability & Absence Management, Compensation & Benefits, Employee & Labor Relations, and Learning & Development as well as Operations Business Partners (e.g., Legal, Environmental, Health and Safety, Finance, Assurance, Audit, Informational Technology, Diversity Equity & Inclusion).
- Strive for a consistent approach in the application of HR procedures and practices across all client groups.
- Support positive change and proactively mitigate and resolve employee issues.
- Build credibility and trust by resolving employee concerns through reliable and prompt resolution, clear documentation and follow-through.
- Provide compensation and performance management support to supervisors and employees, including addressing moderate to complex compensation and performance issues.
- Oversee promotional and hire cases from beginning to end while partnering with key stakeholders.
- Provide constructive and candid feedback to leaders about talent moves, gaps, promotions and growth opportunities.
- Serve as the lead for the annual performance and compensation review processes and act as a liaison between HR and the divisions, which includes providing guidance to supervisors and employees on the process.
- Provide compensation support by reviewing position descriptions to ensure duties and qualifications are aligned with the appropriate job classification. Conduct job audits and reclassification reviews.
- Work in support of the Lab and division’s goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Develop, generate, and analyze reports and data obtained from HR systems to provide analytics, metrics, and trending information.
- Assess and analyze various processes, develop and maintain documentation, streamline workflows to increase efficiency and quality, implementing solutions that result in better performance and outcomes.
- Provide ad-hoc reports as determined by customer needs. Manage data integrity and work with the HR Solutions Team Members to ensure data entry and changes are accurately reflected in HR systems and tools.
- Conduct analysis and create custom presentations and summary reports for key stakeholders.
- Interpret and apply LBNL policies and practices as well as federal, state, local employment laws and collective bargaining agreements.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
What is Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field.
- A minimum of five years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Broad Human Resources knowledge and HR Industry practices with demonstrated experience in the areas of:
- Compensation (including job leveling, salary analysis, equities and retentions, etc.)
- Recruitment.
- Training and development.
- Demonstrated experience providing guidance and consultation regarding policy and procedures to staff at multiple levels.
- Displays strong business acumen and an ability to understand business units strategy and challenges.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and effectively plan and prioritize work to accomplish multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to HR industry practices (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO/AA, etc.).
- Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to proactively service a large, multi-faceted and diverse organization.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to diagnose and analyze problems and drive appropriate solutions.
- Applies initiative and judgment in accomplishing effective resolution of a diverse range or complex and unusual situations.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and actively support change initiatives in a positive manner.
- Strong technical skills including experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and collaboration tools.
- Knowledge and experience with HR management systems and other HR software applications to track information and generate reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with PeopleSoft and Taleo. Familiarity with Google applications and/or other collaborative tools.
- Employee and Labor Relations experience.
- Experience working in a union environment.
- Supervisory or work lead Experience.
- PHR certification.
- Experience working in an HR functional area.
Notes:
- This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
- The full salary range of this position is between $92,328 to $155,796 per year and is expected to pay between a targeted range of $103,860 to $126,960 per year depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

- This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
