The Data Analyst is responsible for developing reports, dashboards, applications, and tools that provide information to PRISM staff and the PRISM membership as well as partners, brokers, and vendors. They perform financial reporting for the finance and claims departments, brokers, reinsurers, and the insurance market. They also interact with staff, member and broker representatives to determine specifications and requirements and priorities for report and product development.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and continue to develop a solid understanding of technical processes with skills in data manipulation, database access, reporting, application development, and report/application development and database software and tools.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information to be included in information products covering a broad range of topics in support of both recurring and ad hoc business information needs.
  • Perform monthly, semi-annual, and annual data processing, database loads, and data verification. Apply changes, corrections and overrides as needed.
  • Develop and prepare reports, online dashboards, applications, and tools to pro-actively support data driven decision making; effectively researching, investigating, identifying and recommending metrics and other comparative information.
  • Automate recurring reporting and/or data collection/manipulation processes.
  • Ensure that all production reports and information products are produced in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Verify that information products reconcile with comparable reports and/or company financials, and that report content (including counts, amounts and descriptive information) are reasonable and correct.
  • Track down data anomalies, financial discrepancies, and other data and information “issues” and determine the appropriate corrective course of action. Provide notification of issues as necessary.
  • Work with data providers on obtaining, verifying, and mapping member loss data submissions. Update the conversion and mapping routines necessary for processing loss data (working with the database team when needed).
  • Work with the members and data providers to improve the quality and timeliness of the data provided.
  • Communicate with D&A customers in regards to their information and reporting needs, and develop specifications, requirements, development timelines for reports and information products.
  • When needed, provide requirements to the database development team for new database components and/or modifications to existing structures and processes.
  • Work on specific data and/or analytical projects as directed by their supervisor.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for information as directed by their supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor or the department manager/director.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position will be an energetic self-starter with the capacity to independently manage responsibilities, tasks, and goals; be creative, and capable of looking at new and different approaches to solving problems and resolving issues; and possess strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical customers and staff.

Candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Experience in analytics, operational reporting and/or financial reconciliation may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and exposure to SQL is required.
  • Experience working in Python and Qlik is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in risk pooling, insurance or risk management is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

This position will require reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Some travel may be required.

Licensing Requirements

A valid Driver’s license is required. Proof of auto insurance with no exclusion for business use is required.

We are seeking candidates who can fulfill this position through a hybrid work model consisting of remote work and in-person work in our Folsom office. This position is required to attend in-person meetings or office events at least every other week.
