Job Title: Branch Manager
Under the supervision of the director of public libraries, the branch manager oversees the operations and management of the branch, ensuring quality customer service. Develops and directs branch staff, including oversight of scheduling, duty assignments, record keeping, managing workflow, and materials handling. Meets all standards of confidentiality and safety. Serves on system-wide committees and may be required to supervise library system operations in the absence of the Library Director and Assistant Library Director.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining regular communications with branch staff, including regular meetings, goal setting, planning, and developing performance standards.
- Creating reports and gathering statistics for system and branch records.
- Resolving conflicts with patrons and staff.
- Representing the library in the community.
- Taking an active part in professional association activities and keeping abreast of library literature.
- Interpreting and implementing library policies and procedures.
- Recommending branch budget needs, overseeing expenditures, and ensuring branch adheres to system accounting requirements.
Job Requirements:
Master’s in Library Science ALA/MLS required with at least three years of progressive public library experience. The ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with superiors, associates, other organizations, and the public. Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Excellent written communication skills to draft reports, evaluations, branch policies, and procedures. Ability to supervise and manage others and knowledge of management theories and practices.
Must effectively work independently and be self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to recognize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Advanced knowledge of computers, online catalogs, databases, networks, the Internet, and their applications for library use. Analytical ability and problem-solving skills to identify and solve problems, determine alternative courses of action, and recommend actions.
Salary: Starting at $60,297
