Description
JOB SUMMARY :
Receives and coordinates new referrals for Durable Medical Equipment and Supplies. Conducts screening and data entry of requests for authorization and eligibility; daily interaction with community and will actively promote and develop relationships with internal and external referral sources.
QUALIFICATIONS :
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Receives client request by phone or fax for new orders, exchange, cancellation or pick up for durable medical equipment and or supplies.
  • Data will be received, client information, insurance verification and medical equipment information into the computer system for timely and accurate delivery
  • Perform pre-certification and or authorization activities for all requested durable medical - eligibility and benefits coverage.
  • Review of physician orders and applicable documentation to ensure that it meets medical necessity/appropriateness criteria.
  • When necessary, request of additional information and or documentation from referral source.
  • Orders will be processed accordingly; once verification and criteria is met.
  • Manage incoming calls from referral sources and customers
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Home Medical Equipment and services. Has an understanding of insurance guidelines regarding coverage and reimbursement. Understanding of Medicare and Medicaid coverage guidelines
  • Maintains detailed documentation to record client, physician and referral source communications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, prioritize work using fundamental time management, handle multiple tasks and projects dealing with complex patient/family dynamics and work in and support a team environment.
  • Participates in inventory control with the use of Point of Sale
  • System and software for HME.
  • Ability to process and complete sales orders within designated software.
  • Provide education to patients on the application, use, care, and expected outcome for the durable medical equipment (DME) products as indicated by the physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion.
  • Perform patient/customer scheduling, education, order processing, delivery, and courtesy call back.
  • Actively promote and foster good relations inter-departmentally and with physician's clinical center personnel, external case managers, payers, and suppliers.
  • Track, maintain, and order durable medical equipment (DME) products for the location including inventory and equipment.
  • Manage site profitability.
  • Comply with all elements of HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other required programs.
  • Support ONCALL duties
  • All other assigned tasks
EXPECTED BEHAVIORS :
  • Follow Patients First Behavioral Commitment, AIDET and customer service training.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with associates and administration.
  • Follow all policies and procedures applicable to the organization and department.
  • Report any emergency situations to the Director.
Position Requirements
LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIRMENTS:
  • Criminal history background check indicating no felonies.
  • Valid Indiana Driver's License and automobile insurance as required by the state of Indiana.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
  • High school diploma.
  • Two (2) years' experience in medical equipment maintenance preferred.
  • Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
