We are seeking an experienced Head of Credit Risk in the Commercial Payments sector to drive the strategic evolution of our credit risk practices. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee underwriting and credit reviews for high-value commercial payment products, primarily focusing on unsecured terms. You will develop and implement a robust credit risk strategy that encompasses various products, including ACH, Wires, Large Commercial Credit Cards ($1MM+), Virtual Cards, and Merchant Services.
As a key partner with cross-functional teams and committees, you will be responsible for establishing a best-in-class relationship-based review process and monitoring the quality of our Commercial Payments portfolio. Your expertise will guide policy adjustments in response to emerging trends, ensuring adherence to bank policies for all secured and unsecured loans.
You will lead and mentor a team of credit analysts, fostering a culture of excellence while identifying talent gaps to enhance our capabilities. Your strategic vision will contribute to business growth and the execution of company-wide initiatives, making a significant impact on our risk management framework.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to drive sustained growth through effective risk management practices.
- Design and implement a best-in-class relationship-based review and approval process for all credit and loss exposure products within the Commercial Payments and Treasury business line.
- Monitor the quality of the Commercial Payments portfolio, providing insights on relevant trends to Credit Leadership and other stakeholders. Propose necessary adjustments to policies, concentration limits, and risk rating processes as new internal or external trends arise.
- Work closely with Commercial Payments leadership to ensure that the terms and conditions of all secured and unsecured loans/exposures are compliant with bank policy.
- Lead and mentor a team of Commercial Payments credit analysts, establishing performance standards and identifying skill gaps. Drive organizational commitment to hire and develop talent to address these gaps.
- Support business growth initiatives, including sales and credit activities within the business line.
- Execute on strategic initiatives for Credit and the organization as a whole.
- Represent credit risk management in executive and credit committee meetings, including the Credit Policy Committee, Loan Committee, and Special Assets Committee.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience managing underwriting policy and overseeing portfolio performance for commercial credit cards with multi-million dollar borrower commitments.
- In-depth knowledge of credit and operational risks in the Commercial Payments/Treasury sector, including Large Commercial Cards ($1MM+), Virtual Cards, Third-Party Sender/ACH, Merchant Services, Global Banking, and emerging technologies.
- Proven track record in leading change and implementing improvements to business operations and performance.
- Successful experience collaborating across business lines to drive informed business decisions.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree in finance or economics preferred.
- Specific experience in business/commercial card underwriting (not just general commercial underwriting).
- Expertise in setting underwriting policies.
