Summary of the Role

The Planning and Delivery team is seeking an experienced Program Manager to support the large initiative for Open Access Dashboards within the Research Publishing team that is focused on building a world-class platform supporting article publishing in Wiley journals. Over the next year, emphasis will be to build new features and enhancements into the applications for article publication, newer workflows for article production management, generate metrics and reporting, and establish a robust system for customer support across the Research Publication application landscape.


The Program Manager role is expected to engage with stakeholders helping them align business vision to product strategy, create and adhere to a product roadmap for delivery, execute on schedule and be responsible for managing/communicating status, issues and risks throughout the lifecycle of key initiatives. This is a highly cross-functional role for someone who loves to take charge, improve workflow productivity, help remove blockers, drive progress, manage budgets, track benefits, and actively follow up on timelines with business, product, and technology teams. The Program Manager will apply subject matter expertise to identify, develop, and implement techniques (based on Agile and Lean principles) and will work closely with our internal and possibly external stakeholders demonstrating professional knowledge to ensure that the work products and deliverables are of the highest quality.


How you will make an impact:

Planning & Delivery:

  • Drive delivery with key focus areas: on-time, on-budget, in-scope, with high quality and stability.
  • Maintain and continuously iterate on the delivery roadmap ensuring a regular cadence of prioritization to drive optimal value delivery and to enable transparency of schedule.
  • Ensure teams are supporting a continuous planning cadence whether roadmap planning or program increment (iterative) planning.
  • Ensure program delivery takes a service level and customer level view of "definition of done" including success criteria, and measurements, managed towards customer satisfaction.
  • Identify program core team needs with regards to process, tools, documentation, etc., and implement or drive required changes to ensure optimum efficiency.
  • Translate prioritized product strategies into program visual roadmaps.
  • Drive decisions and take actions in support of the larger area's strategic direction.
  • Drive delivery through following the lean governance workflow established by the Planning and Delivery leadership team, including new technology initiatives review and prioritization mechanism with a quarterly cadence.
  • Navigate multi-work stream programs with overlapping dependencies.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Drive and manage transparency through establishment of relevant dashboards and KPIs for decision making, examples Cost, Usage, Performance, Scale, Errors.
  • Provide clear communication to cross-functional team leads and senior management regarding project status, resource requirements, issues, and priorities. Proactively identify risks and issues, prioritize them, and create plans to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with and support teams in delivering work in a way that builds trust across various business units.
  • Work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes.
  • Provide periodic status reports via online dashboards to provide real-time data on delivery status as a regular cadence of reporting to the executive leadership team.

Leadership:

  • Drive a strong cross-functional leadership culture between the core team members.
  • Train, coach and evangelize the core team on the Agile mindset, frameworks, and practices.

What we look for:

  • 5+ years of program/project management experience in software development working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, as well as traditional project management experience; integration projects and user interface projects required OR equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Experience with SAFe framework will be advantageous.
  • Able to build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships across the organization; create a shared sense of direction and community among the teams.
  • Able to think strategically and tactically to make the program successful through consensus and team building skills.
  • Detail-oriented with proven ability to multitask in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and changing requirements.
  • Ability to both lead and function as a member of a core leadership group responsible for an initiative.
  • Understand and deal well with rapid development cycles, flexible and calm in the face of uncertainty.
  • Ability to work independently - self-motivated.
  • Drive results focused on teamwork, collaboration, and accountability in a matrix organization.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite and Jira. Exposure to Aha will be valuable.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in business will be preferred.
  • Ability to travel to Wiley locations as needed.
