Job Summary

The Design Drafter is part of the Saunders Engineering Department and collaborates with various other departments along with customers to take design requirements from scratch to completion of the drawing stage. This role creates and modifies designs based on inputs such as existing drawings, concepts, specifications etc. Additionally, the Design Drafter often supports design concepts, prototypes, and new projects. An expert understanding of 2D and at times 3D CAD work is required, with a strong business acumen to thrive within a manufacturing sales organization. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.

Core Responsibilities

  • Analyses the client's component designs, executes CAD drawings, and provides refinement input to meet desired application requirements.
  • Translates the client's designs requirements to CAD drawings through innovative and reliable design methods.
  • Participates in the development and manufacture of protype client designs, refining and testing for manufacturability, reliability, cost effectiveness and profitability.
  • Engages with the sales & production teams on new applications to ensure design & drawings for manufacturability and tooling are efficient and capable production methods and processes.
  • Supports manufacturing processes via CAD drawings by designing and researching best practices, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication and assembly processes, tooling and fixturing design and applications, materials and quality control standards
  • Assures product and process quality through the development and implementation of design & engineering principles.
  • Collaborates with the sales and production teams and other personnel to tackle procedural and quality issues that are related to the drawing & design of goods.
  • Coordinates and actively participates in project meetings, documenting decisions, and facilitating regular updates to internal and external stakeholders regarding project, drawing, and design status.
  • Builds and maintains expertise in industry trends and best practices, leveraging knowledge to improve manufacturing engineering and design review to drive innovation.
  • Assist with the evaluation of defective materials received from vendors along with customers, then communicates feedback as needed and translates design drawing changes as required
  • Supports periodic review/audit of work practices comparative to documented procedures and reports to supervisor deviations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in mechanical drafting or related field (Required)
  • 2+ years of CAD drafting experience in a manufacturing environment (Required)
  • Solid understanding in design for manufacturing methodology and practical experience in application.
  • Proficient in Windows Microsoft office, manufacturing ERP systems, and Auto-Cad (2d/3D).

Target Compensation Range for this non-exempt role: $32.00 - $36.00 DOE

Education Associates of Design and Technical Production (required)
Experience 2 - 5 years: 2D/3D CAD in a Manufacturing Environment (required)
