We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Store Director to support our retail team at the Gladys Porter Zoo, a beloved destination where visitors connect with the wonders of the animal kingdom.

About the Role

As the Assistant Store Director at the Gladys Porter Zoo, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Store Director in managing day-to-day retail operations. You will assist in leading a diverse and talented team to deliver exceptional guest experiences, ensuring that our store not only meets but exceeds its sales goals, all while promoting our commitment to wildlife conservation and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Leadership: Assist the Store Director in managing all aspects of the retail store, ensuring smooth operations and an engaging atmosphere that reflects the zoo’s mission.
  • Drive Sales: Collaborate with the Store Director to implement strategies to boost sales and achieve targets. Ensure the store is stocked with the right products and assist in communicating inventory needs to corporate.
  • Financial Oversight: Help manage payroll and controllable profit within set guidelines to support financial objectives.
  • Build Relationships: Work alongside the Store Director to maintain strong partnerships with zoo stakeholders, enhancing collaboration and long-term success.
  • Team Development: Assist in recruiting, training, and developing a talented and diverse team, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that encourages growth and excellence.
  • Guest Experience: Ensure that every guest receives outstanding service, creating a memorable shopping experience that complements their visit to the zoo.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 3+ years in retail management or supervisory roles, with a strong sales background and merchandising expertise.
  • Leadership Skills: A proven ability to assist in leading and developing a team, contributing to a positive work environment that drives performance.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A proactive approach to problem-solving and driving results.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of the business.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and handle merchandise, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
