Job Description
Safety is a core value at Cornerstone Building Brands. We are searching for an EHS Specialist who wants to make a difference in injury prevention, reducing EHS risk, and supporting our leadership and employees to make improvements in our safety culture. The candidate will have support from top leadership to drive EHS improvements. At Cornerstone, our aim is to be the premier manufacturer of windows and doors, which includes aiming to be Premier in EHS. The EHS Specialist will be empowered and expected to make a difference in our operations. Successful candidates must demonstrate critical thinking ability, solid leadership, effective organizational skills, good communication skills, and a strong desire for EHS improvement. The role will report up through the EHS organization and will need to influence plant operations to lead for safety and drive continual improvement. The EHS Specialist will provide service and direction to assure that the location(s) managers and employee population can perform work in a safe and compliant manner as well as achieve location and company goals & objectives. As a part of the extended corporate EHS team, this position will periodically be assigned to corporate initiatives or teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implement policies and programs for local compliance with applicable local, regional and federal EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) for assigned locations and groups.
- Execute an EHS compliance calendar for all required regulatory and policy activities for all locations and organizations assigned.
- Develop, arrange, implement and/or conduct EHS training necessary to maintain EHS regulatory compliance for the location(s) and/or organization.
- Support or conduct mandatory Regulatory event reporting (OSHA, EPA, etc.) is completed, i.e., annual OSHA 300 log, notification of serious accident, hospitalization, or death.
- Respond to complaints or inspections by federal and state agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. Provide corrective action assistance in response to government complaints or inspections.
- Maintain local system (procedures, equipment specifications, training, secure volunteers etc.) for location Emergency Response capability including necessary drills and training.
- Support local environmental compliance programs.
- Operate and promote applicable Sustainability actions and monitoring according to company or location requirements.
- Review new process/equipment or new construction and/or building modifications for EHS impacts and collaborate with local management and appropriate project teams in developing corrective actions to address findings.
- Maintain location(s) SDS management system to meet local/state/national regulations and company policy.
- Coordinate and/or support local testing and analysis for EHS related topics such as: audiometric tests, industrial hygiene analysis, environmental waste stream analysis, post-accident drug screening, infectious disease tracking, etc.
- Coordinate safety equipment performance specification, product selection, purchase, inventory, and use.
- Identify safety hazards and prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
- Lead and/or participate in investigations of accidents to identify preventive and corrective measures.
- Conduct trend analysis, audits, accident investigations and site inspections of operational procedures, facility design equipment and materials.
- Monitor and coordinate onsite hazardous waste activities and off-site disposal practices.
- Obtain and maintain certification for basic Life Support and First Aid skills, administer First Aid to injured employees as needed.
- Work closely with management and associates in promoting a safety awareness culture and prevention.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health and Environmental with 3 years’ work experience in an industrial, manufacturing environment.
- If the candidate does not have a BS Degree in EHS then other technical degrees (chemistry, biology, engineering) are acceptable with 5+ years of EHS work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of EHS leadership in influencing positive change for EHS.
- A proven track record leading transformational change in manufacturing processes, leadership, culture, and team member development.
- Experience participating on cross-functional teams.
- Experience in measuring/tracking EHS related metrics.
- All Microsoft Office products.

Employee Relations – Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to effectively lead investigations to ensure all facts are considered to drive appropriate actions. An experienced leader who demonstrates the ability to coach and guide leaders through conflict with the goal of creating a premier work environment.
