Sargent College's Department of Physical Therapy offers a range of academic professional programs with a focus on preparing students for careers in health care. Reporting to the Department Chair, the department manager will work to ensure the efficient management and operational excellence of the academic unit and its dynamic community of faculty, researchers, and students. Working in collaboration with faculty Program Directors, core responsibilities include:

  1. budget oversight and management;
  2. processing payments;
  3. procurement;
  4. event planning;
  5. supervision of department administrative staff and student employees;
  6. assistance with faculty academic appointments, promotions, tenure applications, recruitments, and search processes;
  7. student program admissions support;
  8. data collection, record management and preparation of accreditation and department annual reports.

Required Skills


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Essential skills also include organization, time management, strong judgment, problem solving, exceptional attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Effective leadership of department operations

Professional Competencies:

  • A collaborative work approach with the ability to handle confidential materials with discretion
  • Ability to create positive relationships and work with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent problem solving and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team exercising initiative and judgment
  • Facility with data analysis. Comfort using quality data to help guide decision-making
  • A work approach which strives for continuous improvement, creativity, flexibility, and curiosity
  • A willingness to explore, understand, and appreciate diverse perspectives
