Pay : $85,000 - 95,000 per year

360 Rail Services is a railroad Consulting and Construction firm providing Engineering, Maintenance, Construction, and Operations to various clients across the US. Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our railroad construction company. As the Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in managing the company's financial activities, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis. You will ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations while providing strategic insights to support decision-making and drive business growth in the railroad construction industry.

Responsibilities and Duties

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Conduct variance analysis and financial performance assessments to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial analysis, helping to drive profitability and operational efficiency.

General Accounting:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, adjusting entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Review and analyze accounting data to identify discrepancies or irregularities, taking corrective action as needed to maintain accuracy and integrity of financial records.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of annual operating budgets and long-term financial plans.
  • Collaborate with department heads to prepare budget proposals, track budget performance, and analyze variances against budgeted targets.
  • Prepare regular forecasts and financial projections to support strategic decision-making and business planning.

Financial Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and internal controls, identifying and addressing any areas of non-compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits, providing documentation, explanations, and analysis as needed.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, implementing controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and mitigate liabilities.

Process Improvement and Automation:

  • Streamline accounting processes and procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and technology integration to enhance productivity and reduce manual effort in financial operations.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional initiatives to implement process improvements and best practices throughout the organization.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on financial reporting, analysis, and general accounting.
  • Prior experience in the construction or engineering industry, particularly in railroad construction, is highly desirable.
  • Strong technical accounting skills, with a deep understanding of GAAP principles and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate insights effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Sage Intaact experience, a plus
