POSITION TITLE: Lead Medical Assistant
STATUS: Non Exempt-Full Time
LOCATION: Sonora, California
STARTING SALARY: $26.56-$31.31-Hourly
POSITION SUMMARY :
The purpose of this position is to provide: (1) proactive training, support and leadership for all medical assistants in the region; (2) assistance and support for the Medical Department's professional staff; and (3) quality and relational care of patients during all stages of their visits.
The position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian health organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. MEDICAL PROVIDER SUPPORT : (1) Provide direct support to assigned medical provider(s); and, (2) Ensure all medical assistants are providing support for the medical providers according to the standardized protocols and procedures established by MACT Health Board, Inc., including but not limited to:

  1. Conduct visit preparation activities for the next day(s) visits;
  2. Lead morning and afternoon Team Huddles;
  3. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is attached and available in patients' medical record (NextGen) prior to their appointment;
  4. Clean exam room, lab and other patient areas between patient visits and after hours;
  5. Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, O2 saturation and document all information in patient's chart;
  1. Assist provider with patient exam and procedures;
  1. Perform various lab tests, screening and phlebotomy testing procedures consistent with training and clinic policies;
  2. Assist with maintenance and inventory of medical equipment and supplies, and restocking of exam rooms.
  3. Facilitate and log labs, X-rays, consults, referrals and other reports as needed.
  4. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)
  5. Maintain infection control standards, including autoclaving instrument and logging of autoclave testing;
  6. Take telephone calls and messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls;
  7. Assists with assessments required for CHDP, audits and other regulatory guidelines;
  8. Oversee the region's referral process with the assistance of the Special Projects Manager
  9. Oversee the region's prescription drug prior authorization process and delegate and train accordingly
  10. Oversee the region's facilities, reduce waste, and make recommendations to improve quality and efficiency
  11. Review and approve timecards for the region's MAs
  12. Serve as the region's NextGen Super User
  13. Train the region's new and existing MAs
  14. Evaluate MA competencies during probationary period, periodically, and annually
  15. Act as the region's primary Health and Safety Designee
  16. Comply with all MACT policies and procedures at all times;
  17. Other duties as assigned.
B. QUALITY ASSURANCE AND IMPROVEMENT:
  1. Provide a monthly report to the Director of Nursing to be integrated into a report for the Executive Director;
  2. Participate in Departmental Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities;
  3. Inventory and monthly check of emergency carts and supplies and do appropriate documentation;
  4. Create recall lists, abnormal lab logs and high-risk lists;
  5. Conduct monthly quality improvement reports and audits for HEDIS, GPRA and others as assigned;
  6. Must adhere to the MACT Health Board, Inc. Corporate Code of Conduct;
  7. Must be adept at NextGen EHR and complete I2I (population management) training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Current CPR certificate.
  3. Current Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
  4. One year experience as a CCMA with completed Medical Assistant Vocational Certificate.
  5. One year experience with MACT Health Board Inc and or one year in a Lead Medical Assistant progressively responsible experience in a health care setting.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must pass Occupational Health Screening.
  2. Must possess a valid form of identification as listed on the U.S. Department of Justice I-9 form, verified using the E Verify system.
  3. Clean DMV driving record and MACT auto insurance driving eligibility (determined by auto insurance carrier).
  4. Proficient in problem resolution, detail analysis, and accuracy.
  5. Ability to work as part of a professional team.
  6. Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations.
  7. Promotes a positive and cooperative work environment by communicating problems and workflow issues with supervisors, and handling conflict in an appropriate manner.
  8. Maintains an acceptable level of accuracy, thoroughness, and neatness as evidenced by audits.
  9. Ability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  10. Good oral and written communications, patience and tact. Well organized.
  11. Ability to multi-task and time manage properly.
REQUIRED ABILITIES:
  1. Thorough understanding of universal precautions.
  2. Thorough understanding of various working policies and procedures of the Medical Clinic at MACT Health Board, Inc.
  3. Proficient in taking and recording patient's vitals, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature and urinalysis, etc.
  4. Proficient in various clerical tasks required, e.g., assisting patients in completing forms.
  5. Thorough understanding of various tools and equipment used by the physicians and the Nurse Practitioners.
  6. Proficient with cleaning solutions and sterile processes.
  7. Thorough understanding of confidentiality rules regarding medical information as well as the Health Information Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
