The Control System Engineering team engages on all aspects of high-level support for the control systems within the Amazon FC’s. This work takes the form of direct field engagement for launch and existing facilities, commissioning, on-call, continuous improvement, change management, project management, training, security, infrastructure and systems administration. In this role, you will develop a team of engineers working directly with a wide number of stakeholder teams, to maximize the performance, availability and quality of the facilities in your region. To accomplish this, you will drive strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including Operations, field RME, Process Engineering, Operations Engineering, World-Wide Design and other engineering entities. Your team delivers robust lifecycle management approaches, that are scalable, reduce manual work and overall reduce the cost of ownership of the systems you support. You will deliver this through the use of statistics and data analytics, structured problem solving, implementation of global support mechanisms, system performance monitoring tools, identification and dissemination of best practices. In this role, you will develop and implement standard operating procedures, optimal code/parameter sets, performance metrics, and feedback mechanisms to ensure reliability and operational efficiency of our equipment.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Understand and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, ASi), motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  2. Programming and source coding for in-house built solutions based in PLC or PC controllers and SCADA/OEE platforms.
  3. Develop solutions related to Automation Systems.
  4. Project Management (PM) of large-scale initiatives that will require work activities coordination of site-based Automation Engineers (AE) to accomplish goals of the business.
  5. Apply Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on troubleshooting and dive deep for engineering issues, supporting local teams to investigate the root cause and planning actions to eliminate/mitigate the downtime of critical assets.
  6. Create, optimize and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for control the efficiency, availability and quality of the machines, generating reports for improvement purposes.
  7. Manage and deal with Vendors to plan and coordinate tickets resolution for local teams or network wide issues.
  8. Provide technical guidance and decision making for collaboration projects or initiatives with other Amazon teams, being a key stakeholder in supporting technical and major network support requests.
  9. Ensure remote troubleshooting capability is available on a rotational system to provide 24/7/365 support for all hardware or controls software systems within the sites locations.
  10. Ability to travel up to 80%.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

BS in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related discipline or BS/BA with 4+ years’ experience in maintenance or 2+ years Amazon experience
Experience leading change management in multiple site environments
Experience commissioning or accepting equipment from integrator
Experience troubleshooting and implementing corrective actions
7+ years’ experience working in industrial controls and automation
Exhibit knowledge and experience with the major MHE integrators
Proven experience driving goals with minimal day-to-day supervision
Proficient data analyst and new processes developer/adapter

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Exposure to Lean Concepts, TOC, layout design, cost/benefit analysis, labor productivity analysis (time studies, standardized work), safety/ergonomic/human factors.
MBA or other Master’s degree and/or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification a plus
Manufacturing or complex industry experience leading Controls.
