VOA is seeking a Staff Accountant to assist in month-end close processes, analyses, reporting, and performing special projects as assigned.


This position allows for a Hybrid Work Schedule. This role does not allow for a fully Remote Work Schedule.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in month-end close activities:
    • Prepare and record monthly journal entries to the general ledger including but not limited to bank reconciliations, investment earnings, contributions, prepaid, in-kind and other monthly routine entries.
    • Prepare month-end reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, and identify, analyze and prepare adjusting journal entries.
    • Assist in preparing month-end schedules and dashboards.
    • Distribute monthly financial reports including departmental financials, trial balances, and investment earnings reports.
  • Grant and Endowment:
    • Review grant and endowment contracts and documents.
    • Record, track and monitor sub-awards and payments.
    • Ensure all transactions are recorded and processed in a timely manner.
    • Assist in preparing grant financial reports.
  • Perform assigned account and pledge receivable functions:
    • Process cash and check deposits.
    • Review, reconcile and record all deposits.
    • Resolve disputed transactions.
    • Reconcile payments and donations received, ensure proper recordings, monitor activities, review and follow up on pending receivables.
  • Main contact for financial inquiries for designated departments:
    • Provide support and analysis such as schedules, financial information, and forecast for the annual budget process and financial review meetings.
    • Provide departmental assistance with inquiries including but not limited to payments, receipts, payroll, budget-to-actual reports, and general ledger.
    • Prepare additional analysis reports as needed.
  • Point of contact for investment program and investment earnings tracking software:
    • Serve as administrator for investment earnings tracking software.
    • Provide support to affiliate users with access issues, account deposits and withdrawals, and account inquiries.
  • Support other accounting department functions as follows:
    • Assist in providing information related to the annual budget preparation and forecasting as needed.
    • Assist the accounting department with year-end close procedures, journal entries, and consolidation.
    • Assist in the preparation of schedules for the annual audit, including providing external auditors with documents as requested.
    • Assist in populating financial reports and periodic filings.
    • Assist in various Committee material preparation.
    • Other tasks as may be assigned as necessary.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • 3-5 years' relevant work experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and advanced Excel.
  • Experience using accounting system databases, ideally with NetSuite – a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines.

Experience Required

  • 3 - 5 years: 3-5 years' relevant work experience.

Education Required

  • Bachelors or better in Accounting or related field.
