Job Summary
The Director, Lifelong Learning is responsible for leadership and oversight of the Lifelong Learning team and associated programming. The Lifelong Learning Department has college-wide responsibilities for Continuing Education, Community Education, English Language Institute, Kids on Campus programming, industry certification testing (Lakewood Ranch Testing Center), partnerships with community-based organizations, and grants and initiatives as needed. This position plans, develops, and implements lifelong learning education and training programs and services which enhance the socioeconomic development of the service region while generating revenue and establishing self-sufficiency within Lifelong Learning.

  1. Directs the activities of the Lifelong Learning team to include planning, implementing, administering, and evaluating projects and services that have an impact throughout the college and service region.
  2. Generates revenue by creating and managing lifelong learning programming and developing new opportunities for growth within our service area, including open enrollment classes and customized training (contract training) programming that reflect unique target markets.
  3. Supervise and mentor employees to include the following: prioritize and assign work; conduct work performance evaluations; ensure staff is trained and make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  4. Enhances organizational effectiveness by creating a strategy for outreach which may include face-to-face contacts, sales calls, email blasts, and use of social media.
  5. Manage financial operations of the Lifelong Learning team. Develop, administer, and monitor budgets; implement and allocate resources and monitor grant compliance.
  6. Develops strong internal and external relationships with noncredit and credit staff, faculty, and stakeholders to assist in delivering quality services to clients, resulting in partnerships beneficial to the college and departmental revenue goals.
  7. Manage strategic enrollment outreach activities and initiatives in support of the Lifelong Learning Department and larger division-wide enrollment goals.
  8. Provides strategic planning and oversight of curriculum and business development for lifelong learning initiatives.
  9. Establishes, monitors, evaluates, and improves processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the College mission, values, goals, objectives, initiatives, and local, state, and Federal laws and regulations. Innovate programs, processes, and services based on community and college priorities and goals.
  10. Writes grants and proposals to obtain funding for programming from local, state, and national community-based organizations.
  11. Works evenings and weekends as required representing college at business and community functions, events, expos.
  12. Supports college training activities which may include planning, implementation, and/or instruction.
  13. Performs other duties as deemed necessary.

Job Qualifications

  1. Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training in learning and development, education, program management, program planning, and/or business development; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree in a closely related field of study and four or more years related experience preferred but not required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Supervisory Experience: Two or more years of direct supervisory experience, including responsibility for hiring, firing, performance management, training, and coaching is required.
