As we expand our R&D and pilot operations, we're seeking a driven R&D Technician to join our dynamic and fast-growing team.
Job Overview
The R&D Technician will play a key role in supporting research, experimentation, and process optimization for Hyfe’s technology. This individual will work closely with the R&D team to conduct laboratory work, assist with pilot-scale experiments, and maintain equipment. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in operating lab-scale chemical processing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform defined procedures under direct supervision, including pilot plant experiments, analytical sample preparation, analytical instrument operation and data processing.
- Conduct sample preparation, including milling, drying, and extraction of raw materials.
- Assist senior team members with analysis of samples by HPLC, UV-Vis and LC-MS.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and proper chemical handling.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance to ensure smooth lab operations.
- Maintain inventory of chemicals and supplies, and work with vendors as needed
- Record, compile and analyze experimental data and present findings to the R&D team.
- Assist with other areas of lab management as needed.
- Perform duties in keeping with Hyfé’s values, policies and EHS protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a related scientific field; OR at least 5 years experience working in a laboratory setting
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in a laboratory setting, which may include internships or academic research
- Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning and professional growth.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced research environment.
- Passionate about solving climate change.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with workflows for sample analysis by UV-Vis, Titrations, HPLC, and/or LC-MS
- Knowledge of biomass characterization and relevant extraction processes
- Familiarity with GMP protocols and safety procedures
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS), data analysis, and documentation
