The Accounting Leader in Training's primary responsibility involves becoming familiar with the accounting and operations functions for the Dallas profit center. This individual has oversight of the branch Accounting function and reporting of financials.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Assist in completing all profit center daily accounting functions including accounts receivable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, journal entries and vendor payables, and insurance company payables.
- Prepare branch financial statements and train in all corporate guidelines including the Brown and Brown Accounting Guidelines.
- Learn and perform all month-end procedures including month end journal entries, the month end workbook, cost allocations from the administration and suspense departments, and running all month end reports including financial statements and subsidiary ledgers that agree to the general ledger control accounts.
- Participate with budget preparation and learn the entire budget process. This includes working with the profit center leader and department managers to create the budget and adjust the Latest Estimates throughout the year.
- Participate in the accounts receivable process which includes: notifying department managers and producers of potential bad debts, write off all accounts over 119 days to bad debt, follow up with personnel to collect any write offs, monitor any credit balances over 90 days and work with the account manager to clear them from the subsidiary ledger.
- Prepare and distribute internal departmental performance reports.
- Assist in preparing reports to respond to Corporate Accounting and DFO ad hoc report requests.
- Learn how to calculate and how the system calculates producer commissions payable and how to review the report in detail to catch calculation errors and ensure accurate payments are made to the producers.
- Work with the accounting leadership teams on special projects that may be assigned from time to time.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or a closely related discipline with a minimum of one to two years related experience.
- MBA/MACC preferred
