Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking Senior Geologist candidates to support Geo-Civil projects from our San Diego, California office .

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining long-term relationships with clients in civil infrastructure and mining by providing technical expertise, attending client and project meetings, managing client expectations, and supporting business development pursuits.
  2. Planning, budgeting and executing surface and subsurface field geologic and geotechnical exploration, and managing support staff required to execute investigations.
  3. Perform geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards and site characterization.
  4. Provide support on the design and installation of groundwater wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP’s, inclinometers, transducers, etc.).
  5. Provide interpretation of site conditions including: geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data and preparing geotechnical and geologic reports.
  6. Developing geologic models for complex geologic site conditions.
  7. Conducting geologic research, and developing innovative ways to advance projects with the latest technologies.
  8. Performing liaison activities with regulatory agencies (local, state, and federal agencies) on behalf of our clients.
  9. Collaborating with geotechnical and structural engineers to develop robust dam designs.
  10. Preparation of project documentation including reports, project communications, and design drawings and report figures that are of a high professional standard.
  11. Written communication skills in the form of technical reports are a must.

Qualifications:

BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalence of experience and/or education.

Professional licensure (PG/CEG/PE) is required.

Valid US Drivers License required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  2. Ideally, 10+ years of experience as a Geologist/Engineering Geologist including investigations.
  3. Experience with complex subsurface investigations including soil and rock core drilling.
  4. Installation of piezometers and geotechnical instrumentation.
  5. Willingness to travel regularly for domestic and international projects while conducting physically rigorous field geologic data collection in a variety of extreme terrain and weather conditions.
  6. Ability to work on multiple project tasks and meet deadlines with aggressive schedules efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and work product quality.
  7. Must have excellent communication and writing skills. Written communication skills in the form of geotechnical/geologic data reporting is necessary.
  8. GIT Certification.
  9. Experience with geotechnical projects including dams, mine tailings dams and water storage dams.
  10. Analytical skills and knowledge of geological and geotechnical software (i.e., RocScience, Geo-Slope, gINT, etc.).

Additional Information:

Relocation not available for this position.

Sponsorship may be available for this role (current US employment VISA holders).

Regular project site travel required (up to 50%).

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $95,000.00 - $140,000.00.
