Position Overview:
The Center Executive Director at the YMCA of Greater Houston is a leadership role responsible for driving the organization’s mission and values within the local community. This position plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the YMCA’s impact on the well-being of individuals and families through a diverse range of programs and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operations of a YMCA center, including member experience, youth and family programs, aquatics, healthy living, local grass-roots marketing, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and community relations.
- Work within a centralized, matrixed model of staffing with Facilities, Outreach, and Out of School Time.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
- Four or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
- Ability to direct operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of center budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
- Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Financial management expertise, including budget development and oversight.
- Ability to quickly build rapport and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in strategic planning and execution.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- YMCA Multi-Team or Center Leader certification preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises full-time exempt and non-exempt employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Computer Literacy:
Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten workload, develop reports and to automate procedures is very necessary.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
