Responsibilities
Responsible for financial statement accuracy of all financial service operations within Meritage Homes Corporation, including wholly owned title and escrow company, insurance company and joint venture relationship with mortgage partner. Oversight and review of direct reports work product including annual review, goal setting, comp review, etc.
- Maintain oversight of all accounting records including month-end checklist; ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting including:
- Manage/oversee the month-end closing process
- Prepare/review schedules for monthly financial reporting
- Prepare month-end accruals and operating reports as needed
- Review journal entries and reconciliations for direct reports
- Responsible for annual budget and quarterly forecast update preparation
- Work closely with operational management to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Prepare annual regulatory filings with respective licensing agencies in various states
- Perform "budget to actual" comparisons and investigate significant variances
- Prepare monthly and quarterly commissions journal entries for wholly owned insurance broker
- Prepare monthly joint venture reconciliations
- Manage daily cash activity, wires and transfers
- Prepare daily wire transactions
- Monitor for bank exceptions
- Prepare deposits
- Prepare stop payments
- Make check inquiries
- Review check requests and invoices for accuracy
- Prepare personal property tax reports
- Respond to internal and external audit requests
- Resolve accounting issues as they arise
- Follow-up on discrepancies and ad hoc financial analysis
- Work with individuals in other departments within the company
- Demonstrate good communication and customer service skills with individuals both within and outside the organization
- Problem solve and work towards efficiencies within the department
- As time allows, assist region accounting department with various month end reports and journal entries
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Strong communication/client interaction skills required
- 4 years of experience as an accountant required
- Homebuilding/Title experience preferred
- Computer experience and knowledge in Microsoft Office products. Extensive Excel experience required
- JD Edwards (E1) experience preferred
