Job Description

Under general direction, this role serves as an expert for data integration projects and supports the completion of various data initiatives. Key responsibilities include assisting with all phases of data integration projects, optimizing data integration jobs to ensure efficient and reliable data ingestion from various data sources and working collaboratively with architects, business analysts, and data analysts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list; this position may include additional duties as assigned.

  1. Coordinates and conducts end user sessions to understand the business and document business processes.
  2. Assists in preparing comprehensive data requirements for data warehousing and data integration efforts.
  3. Design dimensional models for a data warehouse that supports advanced analytics and reporting ensuring data consistency and scalability.
  4. Supports with building complex ETL/data integration solutions using Microsoft SSIS or Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) to populate the data warehouse.
  5. Aids in performing unit testing and regression testing of data integration solutions developed in Microsoft SSIS & ODI.
  6. Collaborates effectively with data scientists, data analysts and stakeholders to design, implement and optimize data models and data flows for different analytics needs.
  7. Evaluate and optimize database queries and ETL processes for performance, ensuring timely data delivery and improving data latency.
  8. Analyzes and develops complex ad hoc data extracts, reports to support decision makers.
  9. Ensures data results are verified and data issues are debugged.
  10. Maintains thorough documentation of data architecture, data model and data integration processes.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

1. Education :

a) An associate degree in business administration, public administration, information systems, economics, finance, computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university

OR

b) Its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units (i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field).

AND

2. Experience : Three (3) years in the information systems field, including system analysis, business process design, development and implementation of business application solutions or IT project management.

** Substitution ** : Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or a closely related field.

Completion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:

  • Some positions may require sufficient strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, pulling and/or carrying the weight of computer equipment.
  • May require hand/eye coordination for semi-skilled movements, such as taking apart casings, installing parts and reconnecting computers and for performing data entry.
  • May involve extensive VDT exposure.

This exam is designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas which may include but not be limited to: problem-solving skills; a deep understanding of data integration, optimizing data feeds; experience with cloud platforms; prepare technical specifications; produce complex reports, coordinate technical procedures and complex reporting requirements; knowledge of information systems; ability to assist with developing and implementing policies, systems and procedures; ability to identify, analyze and report upon activities, issues, and problems and recommend appropriate solutions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Candidate scores on this examination may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles, when directed by the Human Resources Director.

A passing score must be achieved on the Supplemental Questionnaire Examination in order to continue in the selection process.
