Position Purpose
The GMAS Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of large and/or complex projects for the GMAS backend system (Global Merchant Accounting System). Individuals in this PM position must have some experience with the GMAS system and high level knowledge of the processes it performs. The PM will perform all administrative duties associated with managing a project along with oversight and support of GMAS project resources, including business analysts, developers and QA testers. Projects requiring a PM are primarily projects large enough for a business case, have multiple system impacts and/or projects with complex GMAS requirements. GMAS PMs are expected to provide strong leadership and develop relationships with GMAS business partners.
Key Responsibilities
Manage Project Timeline
Work with BSDG Project or Program manager to coordinate overall project timelines with the GMAS timeline
Gather LOEs/estimates and GMAS development timeline and communicate as needed
Be vocal and push back as needed when requested timelines are not within the team’s capacity
Ensure that milestones are met in order to deliver on time
Identify when the project is falling behind and identify mitigation strategies
Primary GMAS Point of Contact
Serve as first line of defense for communication between the overall project team and the GMAS project resources and represent the GMAS team in project meetings
Triage requests and questions to determine when/if GMAS resources should be pulled in
Protect the team from distractions to allow them to focus on their work, including unnecessary meetings
Communicate project status and potential escalations with leadership
Manage and track project deliverables
Identify milestones and project tasks and keep a detailed project plan/task manager using Google Sheets
Keep close tabs on project tasks and ensure they stay on track
Ensure project deliverables are in sync with the overall project and identify dependencies
Communicate progress to the project team at the appropriate level of detail based on the audience
Maintain flexibility to work in an agile fashion as needed
Work with the Scrum Masters and Release Train Manager to ensure project requirements and deliverables are reflected in Rally
Manage Requirements
Ensure business requirements (BRD) are fully documented by the requestor and kept updated over the requirement gathering process
Ensure there is a full walk-through of the business requirements and that the appropriate GMAS team members attend
Ensure CR (change request) process is followed as needed
Coordinate requirement gathering sessions and ensure the appropriate team members are engaged
Oversee the business design (functional requirements) to ensure accuracy, clarity and completeness
Coordinate business design walk-throughs with developers and stakeholders
Gather all of the appropriate business design approvals
Manage Priorities
Work closely with the leadership team to understand the priorities of the project in the overall roadmap for GMAS
Communicate with business stakeholders to reiterate project priority
Identify when a priority shift may need to occur and report to leadership team
Work with leadership to align resource priorities as needed
Project Testing Oversight
Oversee test planning, provide input and review and approve the GMAS test plan
Facilitate walk-throughs of the GMAS test plan
Serve as point of contact for the SIT/SAT coordinator
Manage the testing timeline and communicate any delays to leadership
Document and track testing issues, including root cause, mitigation and resolution
Assist in validation when/if needed
Maintain Project Artifacts
Ensure all artifacts required for audit are maintained and archived
Maintain a detailed RAID Log (Risks, Action Items, Issues, Key Decisions)
Maintain other project documents as needed based on project
Resource Oversight
Understand resource bandwidth and capacity
Identify when timelines are not in line with capacity
Ensure resources are accounting for their bandwidth and that project commitments are considered in PI Planning
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Project management certification is a plus but not required
Required Knowledge
Proficient in G Suite
GMAS backend experience
Understanding of bankcard processing and transaction flow
Some knowledge of Agile methodologies and Scrum best practices
Experience Required
Five or more years of merchant acquiring bankcard experience
Two or more years of experience working with the GMAS system is preferred
Prior project management experience is preferred
Skills/Abilities
Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a high level understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into actionable application and operational requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and fluently with a diverse group including executives, managers and subject matter experts
The ability to effectively apply business knowledge and leadership qualities to solve problems
Strong organizational and time management skills
Effective multitasking and issue tracking skills
Outstanding facilitation, prioritization and negotiation skills
Must have strong leadership skills and demonstrate the ability to be assertive
