Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, Business and Operations, the Executive Director of Auxiliary Services provides the overall leadership, management, and strategy for Auxiliary Services. This position directs the University's auxiliary services operations, including the bookstore, dining services and catering, conferencing, vending, transportation, card services, parking, camps, and has an administrative role in Housing, Recreation & Wellness, and Health Services. The position is responsible for the management of the contractual relationship between the university and auxiliary service providers.
Responsibilities
Plans and Develops Auxiliary Services Units (70%) -
Oversees the day-to-day operations and financial management of auxiliary units and service contracts.
Responsible for strategic planning of all auxiliary service units, including short-term and long-term goals for fiscal sustainability.
Develops and monitors the implementation and success of unit five-year business plans and annual assessments.
Manages the meal plan portal for students. Includes setting up of meal plans each semester, refunds of meal plans and dining dollars, etc.
Resolves customer inquiries related to all auxiliary units, including dining and meal plans.
Manages and implements marketing plans for all related units.
Develops overall business strategies, budget proposals and manages approved budgets for all Auxiliary Services units.
Negotiates and manages contracts with outside vendors.
Ensures compliance with contracts including commissions, vendor operating hours, product pricing, marketing, customer service, reporting, and product quality.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for all auxiliary units.
Develops or assists in the development of RFP's as needed.
Coordinates and Supervises the Work of Staff and Manages Contracts (20%) -
Supervises and trains staff, including prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Evaluates and develops personnel.
Provides direction to unit managers in planning and implementing initiatives.
Performs a Variety of Related Duties (10%) -
Serves on university committees as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business or a comparable field of study, or comparable work experience within the higher education industry.
Required Experience
Three to five years of related experience in the field of higher education auxiliary services.
At least three years of supervisory experience.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand all objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in business or a comparable field of study.
Other Preferred Qualifications
Certified Auxiliary Services Professional (CASP) designation.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
Knowledge of retail sales principles, including those related to marketing, pricing, planning, discounting, merchandising, cashiering and inventory management.
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Knowledge of principles and practices for providing exceptional customer service, including customer needs assessments, meeting quality standards, for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.
Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
