EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Reports to : Controller

Classification: Exempt

Position Summary

The Executive Director position is responsible for the overall management and performance of Assisted Living Community. The Executive Director works closely with all leaders within the community to ensure effective communication, financial solvency, a positive work environment, and a strong team. This person leads by example and coaches others to create a positive, productive, and safe environment and experience for all community residents, team members, and families. They supervise Dining, AL Programming, and Business Office and ensure efficient and effective communication with other departments. Responsible for compliance with community, federal, state or provincial, and/or local regulations.

Essential Job Duties

  • This position is a Safety Sensitive Position. The essential functions, physical demands and mental competencies of this job require the employee maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
  • Ensures continued licensure and certification of Assisted Living.
  • Ensure adherence to community budget, maintain census, and prepare competitive Analysis reports.
  • Develop, monitor, and participate in the Leader on Duty (LOD) call rotation.
  • Exhibit an understanding of A Better Life Senior Living's mission and vision for the community and lead the development of experiences that are reflective of company values.
  • Ensure a stable team of optimal quality and quantity by recruiting, hiring, supervising, evaluating, counseling, and, if necessary, terminating team members.
  • Ensure all team members are consistently educated and trained through new team member orientation and regular education and training classes, including all requirements of federal and state or provincial regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to all human resources systems so team members are treated fairly and equitably according to federal, state, and provincial regulations, as well as Company policy.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members to cultivate an environment of open communication and approachability.
  • Oversee the resident admission process to ensure that required documentation is completed promptly and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure service needs of all residents are consistently identified through Nursing Assessment and auxiliary evaluation processes.
  • Ensure service needs of all residents are consistently addressed through the development and implementation of service plans.
  • Ensure adherence to all health services systems so the health needs of residents are consistently addressed.
  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety systems so the health and safety of residents, team members, and visitors are consistently protected.
  • Strive to maintain a safe work environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices per the Company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to all engagement standards to ensure physical fitness, intellectual, cultural, recreational, social, and spiritual needs of residents are consistently addressed in a vibrant, progressive, and energetic manner per our Company standards and policies.
  • Actively participate in engagement programming to foster strong relationships with residents as well as to set an example for team involvement and support of engagement.
  • Actively engage in the daily operations of memory care to ensure standards are met, a vibrant environment is established and to maintain active connections to residents and team members within memory care.
  • Manage all culinary service systems so the nutritional needs of residents are consistently addressed by preparing appetizing, attractive, nutritious meals according to the highest food sanitation standards, and serving the meals in a pleasant dining environment.
  • Ensure adherence to all environmental services and housekeeping systems so the community and grounds are consistently safe, well-maintained, clean, orderly, and attractive.
  • Manage sales and marketing department to ensure 100% occupancy can be achieved and maintained with consistently satisfied residents.
  • Oversee all accounting system processes to ensure correct procedures are consistently used for accurate recording of revenues and expenses, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general accounting.
  • Adhere to all quality assurance systems so continuous improvement of all community operations occurs.
  • If any problems arise after usual business hours, ensure that the problems are addressed promptly and effectively, either by being personally available via telephone, in person or by assigning other appropriate leadership team members to be similarly available.
  • Perform team member duties necessary for immediate community operations in case of staffing problems.
  • Ensure RVP of Operations and other appropriate support team members are regularly informed of community status, particularly of any significant problems for which guidance is necessary.
  • Effectively and dynamically lead team members, inspiring their confidence, motivating them to consistently perform their duties according to the highest standards, and creating an environment in which team members consistently feel valued and respected.
  • Create an environment of collaboration in which leadership team members effectively work together and consistently demonstrate teamwork.
  • Ensure an environment for residents in which positive views of Assisted Living and Memory Care are consistently promoted.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with family members and/or significant others of residents so they feel confident that the needs of their loved ones are being addressed.
  • Participate in the development of a positive relationship between community and community at large so they serve as resources for one another.
  • Increase team member recognition and reward through performance reviews and promotion.
  • Conduct community tours to prospective residents and their families.
  • Attend various community events.
  • Attend and participate in training, in-services, and team member meetings, as requested.
  • Understand and implement all emergency plans including fire, hurricane, earthquake, and other disasters.
  • Manage monthly training for team members.
  • Manage annual evacuation plans for team members.
  • Complete or assist with special projects as requested by senior management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by RVP of Operations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Gerontology, Business or another related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience as an Executive Director in Assisted Living, Memory Care and/or Independent Living.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Meet state or provincial health-related requirements.
  • Maintain any certifications as required by state or provincial regulations.
  • Exceptional team building and leadership skills.
  • Strong experience developing individual team members.
  • Excellent knowledge of state regulations and compliance management.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook, and the Internet.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting terminology and processes with strong financial judgement.
  • Desire to work with older adults and their families.
  • Must be certified as an Assisted Living Facility Administrator through a certification program approved by the OLTC or must be enrolled in a certification program with an expected completion date obtaining Administrators’ license within four (4) months of hire.
  • Must meet all healthcare requirements, including Tuberculosis skin test.
  • Must be in positive standing with all healthcare agencies, including Adult Maltreatment Registry.

Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness, or a combination of these.
