Your Future in this Role:

You will play a vital role in the management and coordination of Pierce County’s Human Services Department, driving agency process improvement, procurement and contracting, policy development, and innovative initiatives. You’ll be a trusted leader and partner within the community, fostering genuine relationships and authentic collaborations with a diverse array of stakeholders, elected officials, and service providers. Core Responsibilities:

  1. Manage operational activities, including oversight of HR, IT and public records activities, emergency management coordination, and any facility-related matters.
  2. Effectively coach, counsel, and manage the work of managers, supervisors, and staff.
  3. Develop and interpret policies and procedures to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  4. Partner in the preparation, monitoring, and administering the department’s operating budget.
  5. Monitor changes in federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ensure department maintains compliance and is positioned to take advantage of opportunities.
  6. Serve as the department’s subject matter expert and oversight of contracting processes across the department, from procurement through contracting and invoicing.
  7. Act as Director of Human Services in the Director’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, or related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible management experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Additional education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position may substitute on a year for year basis.
