Responsibilities
MAINTENANCE TOOL and DIE
The Maintenance Tool and Die position makes a direct contribution to important plant goals of ensuring machine uptime is optimized and quality product is made. This person needs a complete understanding of cutter/creaser functions and carton stackers. This role serves as the point of contact for all cutter/creaser and related equipment maintenance and repairs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Tool and Die technician is responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:
Day-to-Day operations of all cutter/creaser and knife room functions
Cross-train and communicate with other tool and die technicians and maintenance personnel
Drive high service level in support of all cutter/creaser, quality and knife room related responsibilities
Inspect cartons for ragged cutting, tear backs and stars that are not cutting clean
Check score heights to keep as even as possible
Check bearer settings between male and female scoring cylinders for evenness
Shim and replace knives as needed on all flexo and offset cutter / creasers
All knives should be shimmed even and only full-sized shims used
Before mounting a knife, turtle should be thoroughly cleaned and coated with light oil
All knives should be indicated square with the bearers
Knife position to be checked with a glass template after working on and/or replacing knives
Cork to be used as needed to prevent welts and loose poly from being formed
Keep scoring in alignment and parallel with bearers
Check alignment of male and female scoring blocks, replace score blocks as needed
Check blanks for fractures and sharp scores after each die change
Run a template to check the cutting to scoring before releasing for production after a die change
Complete rotary moves as needed
Set, adjust and replace delivery wheels as needed
Set and adjust the carton stackers as needed
Use test paper to check for knives that are not cutting clean
Check knives with a micrometer before mounting on cutting cylinder
Replace scoring rule as needed
Replace pickers as needed
Monitor knife room stock levels, report and order low knife room assets
Ensure that all knife room parts are organized and stocked correctly
Work with Maintenance Planner to manage stock levels effectively
Enforce knife room policies and procedures
Housekeeping – sweep, dust, and remove trash from knife room and die storage area
Secure knife room (i.e., no unauthorized personnel allowed inside)
Unpack all knife room parts received and put them in their proper location
Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
Ability to work with managers, quality techs and hourly coworkers from all departments
“Efficiency” minded, well organized and disciplined
Analytical in identifying opportunities and solutions
Ability to enter data into Maintenance Connect CMMS computer system for work orders
Exceptional attention to detail
Capable of acquiring a forklift license
Verbal communication skills
Must be self-motivated and be able to excel with little supervision
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to utilize micrometers, calipers and dial indicators
Ability to run the lathe
Ability to maintain knife room stock inventory levels
Preferred:
Specific knowledge of plant equipment and processes
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems
