The Staff Accountant will assist the Finance Manager in preparing timely and accurate financial information for use by all internal and external parties including executive management, board of directors, and lenders; and in addition, will perform activities covering materials and production costs, cost of sales, overhead, etc. The Staff Accountant will perform journal entries for month-end close, calculate accruals, and prepare account reconciliations.
What you will be responsible for...
- Perform general ledger activities including journal entries, monthly closing tasks and preparation of monthly supporting schedules.
- Review and check general ledger postings on labor, material costs, operating expenses, inventory, and other adjustments impacting profit and loss.
- Process invoices to customers, process customer credit memos and follow up with customers on short/overpayment of invoices and past due invoices.
- Assist in accounts payable department entering invoices, obtaining approval, and processing payments.
- Process accounts receivable deposits both physical checks and electronic deposits.
- Process payroll for West coast facilities.
- Assist in the management of fixed asset schedules.
- Extract, analyze and organize large amounts of data for reconciliation and work center recording.
- Research and follow up on reconciling items found during reconciliation process.
- Ensure that internal and external customers are provided with timely and accurate assistance.
- Cross-train in other areas of the accounting department.
Required Qualifications:
- Competent in accounting and financial practices and procedures.
- Advanced skills in creating spreadsheets and reports in MS Excel and Word, including pivot tables and v-lookup.
- Able to quickly assess issues and relevant information to make effective decisions.
- Highly detail-oriented and organized in work approach.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new job-related information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ERP experience is a plus.
- Able to maintain effectiveness and efficiency in changing work responsibilities and environment.
- Proven ability to work with minimal direction, as well as be resourceful and independent in solving problems.
Education: Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or a related field is preferred. Professional work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Experience:
- 3-4 years of progressively responsible experience in private or public accounting.

- Requires good communication skills, and the ability to attend to more than one person, task, or situation at one time.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly develop strong working relationships.

- Strong computer skills - including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is also required.
