Position Summary

The Loan Officer manages a loan portfolio in the areas of commercial real estate loans with the overall objective of developing customer relationships and maintaining and improving asset quality. This position actively calls on new and prospective bank loan clients and makes referrals to other areas of the business. Main duties include business development, loan interviews, cash flow and credit analysis, and preparation of loan requests for approval. The Loan Officer also monitors performance of loans and borrowers' ability to repay, collects delinquencies, and restructures loans as necessary.

The Loan Officer participates in CRA activities within the lending area, completes research, projects, reports and/or tasks in supporting the Lending Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Generate new business to include loan relationships as well as deposit products from customer calling efforts and referrals.
  2. Review loan requests and present recommendations for approval or denial of requests in a timely, yet thorough manner consistent with Northrim Policy and regulatory guidelines.
  3. Monitor booked loans to maintain compliance with loan agreement and bank policy.
  4. Maintain low-level delinquency in portfolio consistent with bank guidelines.
  5. Complete relevant internal and external training opportunities assigned by the Loan Unit Manager.
  6. Participate in committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.
  7. Represent Northrim Bank at community events, trade shows, or other functions outside the bank as needed.
  8. Participate in bank-wide activities, events, and meetings.
  9. Complete online, written, and in-person compliance training within established timeframes.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position may be considered.
  • Related military education/experience may be used as a substitute for education or work experience.

Experience

  • Three years of progressively responsible work experience in a financial institution to include one year of direct lending experience required.
  • Sales/account management experience required. Small business lending experience preferred.

Knowledge & Communication Skills

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language and in an effective manner with internal and external customers.
  • Must have an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and functions, a sound understanding of business law and practices, and a strong understanding of income verification, collateral, lien position/lien perfection, debt to income ratios, and unsecured credit terms.
  • Able to prioritize work, work independently, and be self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Understand technical procedures and governmental regulations. Strong sense of financial analysis.
  • Ability to ask questions, determine customer needs, propose appropriate products, and explain the benefits and features of each product or service.
  • Must understand and have the ability to implement applicable compliance requirements.

Analytical & Decision Making Skills

  • Ability to interpret financial, statistical, or other data from a variety of sources and to compile and present the information in written and/or verbal format to individuals and/or groups.
  • Independently resolve questions or issues.
  • Thorough understanding of debits and credits, and calculating interest accruals. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Able to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and be able to explain these calculations.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to proofread documents for accuracy and transaction processing.

Computer/Software/Other Equipment Skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as PC, printer, fax/copier, and telephone.

Working Conditions

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment.
