The Hands-on Director of Data Science, AI/ML will lead the data science and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) initiatives within our organization. This hands-on role involves driving strategy, developing advanced AI models, and ensuring the successful deployment of AI solutions across various business functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, extensive experience with AI/ML technologies, and the ability to lead and mentor a diverse team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts.
What You’ll Do for Us:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement the strategic vision for data science and AI/ML initiatives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align data science goals with business objectives.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to leverage data science and AI/ML for competitive advantage.
Technical Leadership:
- Provide hands-on leadership in the development, deployment, and maintenance of AI/ML models and algorithms.
- Model Development: Develop, implement, and optimize ML and AI algorithms to predict outcomes and derive insights from large structured and unstructured datasets.
- Data Insights: Visualize and interpret data, creating actionable reports and insights.
- Scalability: Partner with ML Ops and other cross-functional teams to scale and operationalize ML and AI use-cases.
- Knowledge Sharing: Build and maintain a robust library of reusable data science solutions, templates, and code.
- Automation: Utilize CI/CD principles to automate deployments and improve repeatability.
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, including data collection, data cleaning, feature engineering, model training, validation, and deployment.
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of data science solutions.
Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and data analysts.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within the team.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and business stakeholders, to identify and solve complex problems.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Advocate for data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Innovation and Research:
- Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, AI/ML, and related technologies.
- Drive innovation by exploring new methodologies, tools, and technologies to enhance the organization's data science capabilities.
- Foster relationships with academic institutions, industry groups, and research organizations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in data science and AI/ML, with a proven track record of delivering impactful projects.
- 3+ years in a leadership role, managing and mentoring teams.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in programming languages such as Pyspark, Python etc; proficiency with data science and machine learning frameworks (e.g. AzureML, Scikit-learn); experience with big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Azure Synapse Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud); strong knowledge of statistics, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization techniques; familiarity with generative AI techniques such as GANs, autoencoders, and transformers.
