Central Territory Headquarters LI



Job Objective:



The Territorial Christian Education Director is responsible for the development, promotion, and administration of youth Christian Education programs focusing on specifically Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and Cradle Roll. Leadership will be given in ministries and events initiated and conducted on a territorial level, while support is provided for divisional and corps programs. Areas of leadership can be divided into three main components: 1.) Coordinating Christian Education Ministries, 2.) Christian Education resource review and development, and 3.) Direct ministry to children.



Essential Functions:



Coordinating Christian Education Ministries



  • Provide specific oversight through the various divisional headquarters to all youth Christian Education programs throughout the Central Territory, giving specific attention to Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and Cradle Roll ministries.



  • Plan, implement, and coordinate all territorial campaigns, efforts, contests or emphases relating to the development and growth of Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and Cradle Roll ministries.



  • Assist divisions to improve Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and Cradle Roll programs through:

    • Qualitative and quantitative evaluations

    • Goal setting and measure of program effectiveness

    • Achievement of program balance within the ministry and vision of corps





  • Oversee all components of the Orange Youth Sunday School curriculum throughout the territory including the Orange website and regular communication with reThink Group and their Orange Specialists. Regularly monitor all membership and attendance statistical trends, compile divisional reports, and all other related details.



  • Oversee all components of the Junior Soldiers curriculum throughout the territory including the Junior Soldiers website and regular communication with Kelly Pope of Eskoa Group. Regularly monitor all membership and attendance statistical trends, compile divisional reports, and prepare higher awards and special recognitions.



  • Oversee all components of the Bold/Corps Cadets curriculum throughout the territory including curriculum and supply orders, Corps Cadet revisions, preparing Honor Roll and graduate lists, regular monitoring of all memberships and attendance statistical trends, compilation of Divisional reports, preparing higher awards and special recognition, approval of Post High School Corps Cadet Scholarships, and all other related details.



  • Coordinate and supervise character building troop/program registrations and process higher level awards. Monitor membership and attendance statistical trends, compile territorial reports, prepare higher awards, special recognitions and all other related details; Assist divisions to develop, promote, and implement training courses and programs for leaders of character-building programs in cooperation with appropriate divisional personnel.



  • Provide leadership training for Divisional Youth Leaders, Divisional Christian Education Directors, and local corps leaders of Christian Education ministries.



  • Distribute official Salvation Army Christian Education resources.



  • Participate in territorial, divisional and regional training sessions and direct consultation as needed or requested.


  • Represent The Salvation Army in local, regional, territorial or national events and committees which are related to the specific ministry responsibilities of this position.


  • Promote and resource divisional activities, rallies, camps and events relating to youth Christian Education.


Christian Education Resource Review and Development



  • Serve as a central resource to the divisions for ideas, guidelines, special events, materials, specifications, standards and aid to problem situations relating to youth Christian Education, upholding the national standards and approved curriculum materials of The Salvation Army.



  • Research, develop, and write Special Observance Sunday materials as assigned by National Headquarters.



  • Produce, promote, and administer innovative program components which will supplement existing youth Christian Education resources.



  • Design, prepare and distribute any promotional literature and other informational materials related to youth Christian Education and character building ministries.



  • Develop, write, produce and distribute unique Bible-based mentoring and discipleship program components for use within character building ministry programs that can be implemented through the territorial website.



  • Integrate original youth Christian Education resource materials to existing territorial themes and emphases as appropriate. Make them adaptable to a variety of corps settings and diverse populations, appealing, and professional in design and production. Offer the prospective local leader as comprehensive an approach as possible to maximize potential for success.



  • Prepare a projection, in brief, prior to the beginning of the program year listing objectives proposed for ensuing year. These objectives may include needs relating to personnel, programs, services, administrative practices, physical facilities and equipment, etc. as these may pertain to Christian Education. Confer with the Territorial Youth Secretary to review and reach an agreement on the proposed goals. Report following the end of the year on results achieved.



  • Partner with the Territorial Social Services, Women's Ministries and SA Men's Fellowship Departments for the development and implementation of mentorship program components to collaborate with character building programs.


Direct Ministry to Children



  • Provide direct ministry to program participants and leaders through platform and personal ministries (preaching, teaching, Bible studies, etc.)



  • Offer personal discipling guidance for individuals involved in Sunday School, Junior Soldiers and Cradle Roll ministries, including seeker counseling and follow-up to mentor and disciple these seekers.



  • Integrate a sense of personal evangelism in all interactions with the field and fellow workers in all locations and positions throughout The Salvation Army. A deep personal passion for the lost will help manifest the foundational mission behind all youth Christian Education ministries.


Other Responsibilities



Central Bible and Leadership Institute - Plan, coordinate, attend and supervise track programming and classes for youth attending the event, as assigned by the Territorial Youth Secretary. Prepare budget. Coordinate and supervise programs, supplies and workers.



Territorial Refuel Seminar - Present seminars, teach classes and participate as assigned by the Territorial Youth Secretary.



Divisional Youth Leaders Seminar - Present training, prepare and distribute appropriate reports, analysis, forms and resources for Christian Education as assigned by the Territorial Youth Secretary.



Divisional Youth Councils, Rallies, Camps and Corps Visits - Participate as assigned or invited, as a representative of the THQ Youth Department. Involvement will include participation in the leadership team, class instruction, support and encouragement of leaders and direct ministry to youth.



National Committees - Serve on National Committees as assigned.



Territorial Committees - Serve on Territorial Boards, Councils, and Committees as assigned.



Other Territorial Events - Participate as assigned.



Summer Camp Visits - Provide leadership and support to Divisional Youth Leaders and their summer camps upon request.



Territorial Youth Department - Work with other department staff members as needed. Assist the department head by performing special projects as requested. Perform other related work as required.

Education and Experience:


Bachelors' degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Education, Christian Ministries, or a related field; or commissioning from the College for Officers' Training;



Minimum of three years of experience developing programming and ministry resources, strategies, materials.



Active Salvation Army soldier in good standing at their local corps.

  • Leadership experience in the BOLD for Corps Cadet program.

  • Leadership experience in junior and senior high youth ministry.


Abilities:



  • Research, create, develop, promote, and coordinate new program materials for youth Christian Education.

  • Research, create, compose, and interpret Christian Education materials and determine compliance of resources with Salvation Army doctrines.

  • Research, interpret, integrate and summarize data and correct or determine any cause of discrepancy.

  • Organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up assignments with a minimum of direction.

  • Perform mathematical calculations, accounting principles, and statistical analysis.

  • Be able to exert mental/visual effort required due to sustained periods of concentration, working under pressure of deadlines and continual interruptions from staff requiring assistance.


Supervisory Responsibility:


This position requires direction of secretarial and clerical support personnel and volunteers, but does not have disciplinary or performance management responsibilities.



Financial Accountability:


This position requires preparing and managing those portions of the youth department budget related to youth Christian Education programs expenses to ensure compliance with budget constraints, in cooperation with the Territorial Youth Secretary;

Travel:


Will travel away from home for a variety of training events, rallies, camps, youth councils, national committees, and one-on-one mentoring meetings throughout the territory.



Working Conditions:


Work is performed in a typical office environment. Consultation is required in various settings throughout the territory, including corps, community centers, divisional headquarters offices, residential camps and conference centers. There will be periods of exposure to heat, sun and other weather extremes.
