While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
The primary duty of a social worker involves counseling students by meeting with them to discuss the issues they face and their root causes. Social workers help in identifying factors in the home, school and community that influence a student's academic and social success, and find ways for students to maximize their success. They assist students who face social and learning challenges, and help students develop and reinforce correct behavior.
- Three (3) years of related experience
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (preferred)

- Participates in an annual orientations and trainings
- Shares responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities
- Helps complete necessary school wide duties for the successful and orderly functioning of the school (e.g., hallway supervision, arrival/departure transitions, field trips, etc.) and other such duties as the Principal may request from time to time
- Provides appropriate supervision of students during class, breaks, meals, specials, and transitions to maintain an optimal work environment and to ensure students' safety and well-being
- Attends and participates in events outside of normal school hours (e.g., family nights, student performances, field trips, report card nights, Teacher - Parent Conferences, etc.)
- Collaborates with teachers in planning grade level meetings, department meetings, staff meetings, and other professional development activities
- Adheres to the policies, standards, and school-wide responsibilities described in the School's Faculty & Staff Handbook or as may be instituted or in effect from time to time
- Consistently demonstrates belief in and alignment with Uncommon's core values and educational philosophy
- Seeks state social worker certification on a timeline determined by the Principal
- Provides direct services to the school community including
- Provides crisis intervention and behavior management to expedite students' return to classrooms for learning and to build students' ability to meet the school's high expectations
- Provides one-on-one counseling or group counseling as needed to students and families; coordinates school meetings with families;
- Identifies and trains others to identify students and family members who may benefit from regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling
- Develops and implements curriculum for social and emotional development/intervention with students.
- Manages administrative and appropriate direct-service elements of the referral process for social services and special education services including
- Conducts regular needs-assessments of current and emerging student and family needs
- Uses needs-assessments to identify and cultivate internal and external resources and services referring individuals and families to external resources and services, if needed
- Monitors and facilitates the delivery of external resources and services
- Administers records, documentation, and other compliance activities
- Partners with the principal to design and coordinate family-engagement and family-education activities
