What you'll be doing...

The primary responsibility of the Senior Director of SRE is to lead the SRE functions for all VCG applications including Digital, Assisted and MarTech systems. This individual will have very strong technical expertise on enabling end-to-end engineering practices - CI/CD, Code branching and merge strategy, DevSecOps pipeline, Environment and deployment strategies, Canary and B/G management, Cloud controls and technologies, strong expertise in managing high-volume Cassandra NoSQL etc. The leader should be the technology advisor for the VCG GTS organization to set the vision, technical standards and leadership to enable the execution of best in class operations practices that will improve the reliability of applications. This position should have a good understanding of AWS Cloud and AWS EKS and have good experience running high-volume production operations to support critical business and device launches.

In addition, the position will define and deliver on GTS priorities in an efficient, quick and secure way, by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, adopting best practices, and establishing a healthy foundation with world-class capabilities and a culture of continuous learning. This leader will work with external industry leaders to understand the SRE and Production Ops practices for running a Digital/Product company and implement the appropriate Technology tools and solutions in VCG GTS.

The individual will drive the team to meet all timelines of releases, complete audits and deliver security practices and solutions. Accountable for achieving yearly milestones, driving growth with innovative products and services. Makes decisions regarding hiring, promotion and disciplinary actions. Coaches, trains and motivates the team to achieve subject matter expertise.

The person needs to be ultra-focused and a strong leader to help execute on the vision. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) holds the responsibility for the big picture: determining how our systems relate to each other and using a wide array of tools and building auto healing solutions to improve Reliability for customers. Practices, such as limiting time spent on operations, and proactive identification of potential outages, factor into the iterative improvement key to both product quality and dynamic day-to-day work. SRE's culture of diversity, intellectual curiosity, problem solving, and openness unlocks its success.

Manages operating budget. As part of cloud FinOps, develop action plans to reduce the total cost of ownership, improve the operational efficiency and productivity. Responsible for change control process, yearly audits, security certification, systems availability. Analyzes technology trends, call volumes and discover opportunities for improvement. In crisis (outages), this leader will have to lead and guide the team to resolution and provide the root cause and make sure it does not repeat. Remains current on all service/chat/AI products and services, industry and competitive trends.

Responsibilities

Emerging Technology/SRE

  • Lead strategy and development of innovative solutions for the AIOps platform compromising of TechOps/SRE functions for Digital, Retail and Indirect, Customer Care Applications

  • Technical expertise, vision and leadership to enable the execution of best in class operations practices

  • Drive IT systems reliability for customer experience, and discuss utilizing emerging technologies like AIOPS, SRE, Automation, etc., to improve systems availability.

AIOps Framework

  • Responsible for end to end delivery of all AIOps programs on the web and cloud based platforms for Verizon Wireless, FiOS and 5G Home.

  • Lead technology migrations for engagement channels.

  • Drive org efforts for alerting based on real-time data from various sources including APM, logs, servers, network, storage, etc.

  • Analyze data with AI/ML algorithms to correlate information, uncover patterns, detect anomalies and predict outages.

  • Act on all problem remediation through routing and auto healing workflows, with or without human intervention.

Anomaly Detection

  • Lead ErrorCode anomaly detection to proactively alert anomalies in application error codes.

  • Lead the app traffic/load analysis on the anomalies and patterns for a given day and time based upon transactions/volume.

  • Analyze and pinpoint the APIs getting more hits than usual for a given day of week and time.

Automation Transformation

  • This leader should have the mindset to automate everything: deploys, rollbacks, build of code and provisioning infrastructure, failovers, and everything in between.

  • Experience designing & operating large-scale distributed systems handling millions of real-time requests per second

  • Design and write tests that investigate how our infrastructure handles failure and scaling.

  • Infrastructure as code: Design, build, test and implement including new service onboard, upgrades, tech refresh or provisioning infrastructure.

  • Interface directly with senior staff members within the organization to discuss and assess compliance with GTS policies, standards and procedures, suggest opportunities for improvement, and report on the status of specific. Work with development teams throughout the software life cycle ensuring sustainable software releases

What we're looking for...
  • 10+ years IT experience in networking, applications, infrastructure, or database architectures

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Information Systems, Business Administration or related field; Master's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

  • Leadership of a large, global, complex technology-based organization

  • Experience with balancing multiple stakeholder interests and being a thought partner for senior business leaders

  • Effectively managing the employee and consultant headcount, staying within budget.

  • Cross-team and cross-functional collaboration at leadership level to achieve strategic, enterprise-wide goals

  • Innovative application of data- and metric-driven performance management to lower cost and drive efficiency

  • Experience with software development, software delivery lifecycle, application modernization, DevOps, Service/Infrastructure as Service and Operations.

  • Experience in IT Security and compliance, operations and network services, and application development

  • Experience Cloud and container platform Strategies, Design, Architecture and Migration

  • Excelling in delivering high-value solutions in dynamic and ambiguous environments

  • Leading complex projects by bringing together the right perspectives, identifying roadblocks, and integrating feedback from clients and team members

  • Perform analytics on previous incidents and usage patterns to better predict issues and take proactive actions

  • Build and drive adoption for greater self-healing and resiliency patterns

  • Lead and participate in performance tests to identify bottlenecks, opportunities for optimization, and capacity demands for Iconic phone launches

  • Talent development and management to ensure resources continue to increase their skills

  • Communication and translation of highly complex technical concepts and processes to the language of business

  • Successful vendor partnership and management

  • Influential leadership in a matrix organization structure

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $176,000.00 and $326,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
