JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Family Coordinator -High School - 10 mos. position
Location: Normal Community and Normal West High Schools
Department: Building Personnel
Reports to: Principal
FLSA Class: Exempt
FTE: 1.0
SUMMARY
The Family Coordinator acts as a liaison between the school and its families and the community to increase levels of trust and support within the school. The Family Coordinator will develop and implement school-based programs that leverage the resources of the broader community to overcome barriers to education by serving the social, emotional, physical, and educational needs of its children and families. The family coordinator will enhance families' capacity to support their children's learning and serve as leaders in their children's schools.
DUTIES
  1. Serve as a liaison between school and home enhancing communication and conducting home visits as necessary to:
    • Welcome new families to the school, provide school information and follow up on needed documents and school entry requirements.
    • Provide home support for families including linking families to community agencies, resources, events, and activities.
    • Support initiatives to increase student attendance at school
    • Support students struggling in the school community.
    • Encourage parent's participation in school activities.
  2. Work with staff, families and the community to create a school environment that is consistently welcoming and supportive of families by:
    • Conduct preliminary needs assessments and annual assessments to measure growth towards identified goals
    • Support school personnel in developing skills to connect with families, community members, and other agencies and organizations.
  3. Meets with community organizations and school support networks to:
    • Solicit their support for school programs.
    • Explain and respond to inquiries concerning various school programs and activities
    • Engage with community organizations and social service agencies and their programs and policies
    • Attend and participate in community meetings, workshops, and activities related to educational matters
  4. Other responsibilities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit completed at a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Bachelor's degree preferred
  2. Work effectively with culturally, linguistically, racially, socio-economically, and religiously diverse populations.
  3. Ability to thrive amidst change and challenging conditions while maintaining a positive outlook.
  4. Proficient with teamwork and collaborating with colleagues and administration.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  6. Demonstrated success in establishing community partnerships and networks.
  7. Quick learner who executes independently when provided initial instructions.
  8. Highly organized with strong planning skills with superb attention to detail.
  9. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  10. Technology skills: Microsoft Office/Google, email systems, student information systems.
  11. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with information and records concerning families and children.
