Job Title: Support Counselor
Division/Program: Star View Community Services
Starting Compensation: 20.01 - 23.68 USD Per Hour
Working Location: Torrance, CA
Working Hours/Shift: Mon - Fri: 8 AM - 5:00 PM

What you bring to SBHG:
- Support Counselor I: High School Diploma Plus 2 years’ experience, OR Associate’s Degree plus 1 years’ experience.
- Support Counselor II: Associate’s Degree plus 2 years’ experience OR Bachelor’s Degree plus 1 years’ experience OR Master’s Degree – no experience needed.
- Support Counselor III: Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 years’ experience or Master’s degree plus 1 years’ experience.
- Experience must be working with seriously emotionally disturbed youth with behavioral and/or emotional impairments.
- Valid California Driver's License is Required.
How you will make a difference:
The Support Counselor is responsible for working with children in various settings, including home, school, and out of home placements to provide a large variety of services ranging from Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), behavioral intervention services, transportation, school aide, self-help skill building, vocational preparation, support in provision of group treatment models, and other services as needed to provide “whatever it takes” to decrease negative behavior and improve functioning. Staff may be assigned as a one to one in a school setting, in which case, staff may help to behaviorally support the client’s completion of their schoolwork. The Support Counselor works under the supervision of an assigned Supervisor or Lead and is a part of the child’s treatment team.
Division/Program Overview:
- Community Based programs.
- Provides programs for children, adolescents, and transitional age youth (TAY) with Mental Health services.
- An experienced staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health therapist / Clinician, parent partners, and other counselors.
- Provide case management, mental health care, and a range of support services in schools, homes or other community settings.
- Partner with family members, school administrators and faculty, county social workers, case managers, probation officers, and other agencies.
- Utilize Evidence Based Practice (EBP) to ensure clients make positive changes in their life.
