Nature & Scope
The Technical Trainer will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering team within the Manufacturing Department of our organization to oversee the training of new and existing employees. Their primary objective will be to ensure employees have a strong competency of our assembly process. They will be the designated trainer of assembly steps per our work instructions for new employees, provide training for existing employees who move internally within the organization to a new role, give refresher training as needed per the TCM process to ensure quality standards are maintained, and support Manufacturing Engineers with rolling out assembly / process changes necessary for ongoing continuous improvement.
Basic Function:
- Proficiency of all assembly tasks, ranging from general assembly to electrical assembly, as well as ability to test and troubleshoot on all assembly lines
- Ability to adequately train, teach, and pass on knowledge to others
- Be flexible and willing to work wherever needed and with whomever needed
- This role will come with prescribed work from manager and it will vary from week to week, sometimes day to day. They will not have autonomy to direct their own work plan.
- Develop and maintain multi-skill matrices for all assembly lines/areas.
- Develop and maintain training records for all assembly employees.
- Conduct Training for all employees (new hires and existing employees as needed)
- When not training, will serve as a Grand Floater, filling in to work as an assembler or tester where needed to support the manufacturing plan
- Based on training interaction, as a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team, offer feedback / input to Manufacturing Engineers and Production Support Technicians on opportunities for improvement to work instructions or assembly processes / tooling to gain improved efficiency
Principle Duties:
- Works with assemblers to ensure they are trained to
- build to the bill of materials
- operate within and follow all quality procedures and safety standards
- know how to use all tools/equipment required for their job (including a computer / BPCS if needed)
- handle deviations which arise according to the necessary process (i.e. missing parts, incorrect information on a passport, reject due to QA issue, etc.)
- follow any line/area specific guidelines required by VSL/Supervisor
- Ensure quality craftsmanship is maintained at all times
- Assist VSLs/Supervisors in keeping production lines trained to fill gaps in skill matrices.
- Support MEs with rolling out changes to work instructions or design notifications (DNs)
- Oversee upkeep of training documents
- Serve as a role model for the work habits and skills employees should aspire to
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of two (2) years related experience with ability to assemble, wire, and test compressors
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Be flexible and a team player.
- Possess a mechanical background and ability to use various types of hand and power tools.
- Demonstrate ability to teach others in an understandable, clear, concise manner.
- Have a positive outlook about work with a proven background as an exemplary employee who is respected by peers.
- Must be able to read and interpret orders, bills of material, production schedule, etc.
- Able to work with Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.
- Must be able to read various precision measuring instruments as required by the job.
- Must be able to read and interpret assembly and electrical drawings.
- Must be able to use a decimal equivalent chart and tap drill size chart to determine correct sizes or types of drills and taps to be used in assembly.
- Must be able to write legibly and fill out required reports and forms.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to Operate power lift truck / forklift as needed.
Accountability
This position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager with dotted line accountability to the team of VSLs/Supervisors supported by the training supplied by the role. This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

- Electrical Hazard / Arc Flash Training
- General Safety Training
Physical Demands:
- Required to be constantly moving about the facility (standing, walking).
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs., twist, turn, climb, stoop, kneel, push loads, pull on pipe wrenches and work in awkward positions.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- While on shop floor, must wear safety glasses and steel toed shoes at all times.
- Arc Flash PPE required when working around electrical hazards
- No loose clothing, watches, jewelry, rings, etc. that could get caught in machines.
Work Environment:
- Mainly a plant environment, with some office exposure.
- Exposed to any number of elements (heat, cold, rain, etc.) indoors and out.
