The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment, including the use of stairs. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. Must frequently communicate with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. The person in this position needs to move about in industrial environments and on uneven terrain occasionally. May be required to recognize small numbers, letters, symbols, color on prints, and operate field instruments/equipment.
Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions and industrial environments.
Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).

The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for an Internal Audit Intern in the Internal Audit Department, located in Lansing, MI.
Position Summary:
Job Type: Full-Time Summer Internship
Dates: May 12, 2025 - August 08, 2025
Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour.
The Internal Audit intern will assist in establishing processes and procedures within the department to ensure compliance with new internal audit standards. This will include creating and writing draft processes and procedures. Assisting with a comprehensive organizational risk assessment and internal audits. The intern will learn from and be supervised by a mentor in the Internal Audit Department.
Essential Functions:
- Research and assist in implementing audit processes.
- Develop and draft internal audit processes and procedures for the Internal Audit Department.
- Create draft checklists for the department as needed, in alignment with the new Global Internal Audit Standards.
- Help design a risk assessment survey to distribute to key stakeholders within the organization.
- Assist with audits that are listed in the approved work plan.
- Utilizes standard office software (i.e., spreadsheet, word-processing, database) and SAP.
- Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field location visits.
- Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.
- Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2025.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
