Who we are looking for:
A professional with experience at the university level, to fill the position of Student Services Director . The Academic Advisor must have sound academic advising knowledge to help students meet the requirements to graduate and successfully earn their desired degree program. The Academic Advisor also helps students transferring from other schools and makes sure they go through orientation and get their credits transferred. You will play a key role by working collaboratively with the Admissions, Academics, Administration and Finance, and other university support units to advance then institutional mission and vision.
Flexible modality: 1099 trial period, then W-2.
What you’ll do:
- Coordinate and lead the new student orientation, career assessments, transfer workshops, community outreach events, among others.
- Regularly meet with students to review and guide them to meet graduation requirements while preparing them to meet their individualized future goals.
- Monitor registration deadlines and ensure students enroll punctually.
- Support students transferring from other institutions by guiding them through orientation and facilitating credit transfers.
- Offer coaching tailored to students' academic and career development needs.
- Follow up with faculty to obtain periodic student at-risk reports, detect barriers to student success, and resolve them utilizing coaching principles.
- Incorporate research-based retention and persistence strategies for case management of students at risk of non-completion.
- Inform students about their selected academic programs, career paths, job prospects, and guide them towards the resources, services, and activities that will help them reach their objectives.
- Assist students with any changes in their study plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation of students’ progress and prepare academic advising status reports with actionable feedback and recommendations.
- Prepare, analyze, present, and upload survey results in aggregate format.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student records and other information according to FERPA regulations.
- Create a resource-rich environment for students and teachers regarding college readiness and educational and career planning.
- Utilize technology, research, and best practices to track and analyze student progression and retention and aid in advising services delivery.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
What you’ll need:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, Education or a related field.
- Bilingual (Spanish & English). Spanish fluency is a MUST .
- 2-4 years of proven advising experience.
- Understanding of the skills and education necessary for students to enter various professions.
- Knowledge and understanding of education and degree requirements for students wanting to graduate.
- Ability to review and analyze student needs and recommend appropriate strategies and referrals.
- Ability to manage large amounts of information related to academic programs, college policies and procedures, and federal regulations.
- Ability to serve diverse populations and cultures.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), customer relations and public speaking skills.
- Superb interpersonal skills, especially with students, and sound judgment.
- Analytical mind and problem-solving oriented skills.
- Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to coordinate student support programs or services, provide excellent customer service, promote the programs, and maintain records.
- Ability to work diligently and multitasking during fast-paced applicant review seasons.
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Computers and related software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Nice-to-haves :
- Familiarity using CRM and LMS systems.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
