Job Summary

The Mold Shop Lead operates, and coordinates activities of skilled craft persons engaged in daily operation of the Mold Shop.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assigns work to Mold Shop personnel, oversees work being performed and checks its quality before release to production departments.
  • Initiates and suggests plans to motivate associates to achieve goals and directs training as required.
  • Confers with foremen, designers, programmers, and production personnel to coordinate activities of individual for resolution of tooling related issues.
  • Leads employees in Mold Shop development work.

Operations

  • Estimates time requirements for completion of job assignments.
  • Interprets company policies to associates, enforces safety regulations and coaches associates to correct performance problems.
  • Analyzes tool problems of immediate nature and determines best method of repair.
  • Back-up to Mold Shop Manager when manager is off-site.
  • Has shared responsibility for the quality of Mold Shop work performed on his shift as it is released to manufacturing.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Coordinates training of employees with Mold Shop Manager; assists with planning, assigning, directing, and checking work.
  • Must maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Safety

  • Comply with the EHS Policy and applicable regulatory and company EHS rules and requirements.
  • Prompt reporting of any unsafe conditions, practices, or environmental concerns to supervision. Resolving potential hazards swiftly, thereby ensuring a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Attend scheduled EHS trainings.
  • Actively assist the organization in achieving or surpassing EHS goals. Identify areas for improvement in EHS practices and recommend enhancements to contribute to our commitment to a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrates safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures, including correct techniques for lifting and bending, maintaining proper ergonomics, using equipment correctly, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the enforcement of Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.

Product Safety and Quality

  • Follows FDA GMPs regarding food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
  • Practices good housekeeping including clutter-free work area and general cleaning.
  • Follows product safety standards, follows IPC product defense standards, and complies with all SQF requirements.

Minimum Requirements (include education, experience, special skills, licenses and/or certifications required.)

  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED).
  • Machinist with a minimum of five years of experience in machine shop with the ability to demonstrate proficiency in the setup and operation of all shop machine tools, inspection equipment and methods, and tool repair procedures.
  • Ability to communicate one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to understand instructions and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to work with mathematical fundamentals of shop math, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Technical: Understanding of how thermoformed (sheet) plastic is formed.
