The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Reston, VA seeks a Manager, Web Publishing Systems to be responsible for content and metadata configuration management for AIAA’s electronic products and services, primarily AIAA’s electronic library and its supporting databases.

Reporting to the Director, Publications, you will serve as primary interface with platform vendor for online publications repository and facilitates communication and troubleshooting between platform vendor and other vendors that provide integrated services. You will also be responsible for the design and implementation of all UI/UX updates/changes, new technologies, enhancements, policies, and procedures relevant to electronic content and media.

AIAA has a Flexible Workplace, where staff work in a hybrid environment with some days remote and some in the Reston, VA office. Candidates must reside in the Washington, DC metro area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as primary point-of-contact for AIAA’s e-content platform upgrades and site revisions.
  • Serve as Project Manager for any platform website redesign, ensuring AIAA will have a modern and feature-rich website.
  • Responsible for budgeting and monitoring expenses related to ARC and its supported services.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between AIAA’s IT team and ARC, ensuring successful integrations and data exchanges.
  • Support Publications to identify online publishing and information services, trends, standards, and resources for utilization by AIAA.
  • Contribute to the development and support of improved online content delivery and services for all AIAA divisions as directed by the Director, Publications.
  • Support other departments with special projects related to electronic product development, its communication and technologies.
  • Support inquiries from AIAA’s Customer Service Teams related to AIAA’s publication products and services.
  • Manage content and metadata configurations and enhancements for AIAA’s e-content publications platform.
  • Produce, distribute, and review e-content platform reports and usage data as needed.
  • Support and/or manage the input and quality assurance of product data in AMS, CMS, and other product data repositories. Identify, gather requirements, document, test, troubleshoot and provide suggested solutions to e-content platform system problems, usability issues, and necessary/desired improvements for AIAA’s electronic products.
  • Serve as secondary resource to Customer Service staff for customer access privileges and authentications of electronic products and services.
  • Utilize and/or implement specific electronic publication resources, as might be identified as strategically or tactically valuable, with input from other Publications stakeholders.
  • Implement and/or support the use of new metadata, discovery, and third-party enhancement tools such as CrossCheck, CrossMark, ORCID, FundRef, taxonomy tools, etc.

Position Dimensions:

  • Interface with Publications Managers, IT, other AIAA departments, and external vendors.
  • Coordinate with and manage vendors on development and implementation of new or existing publication initiatives.
  • Provide data from the system database for reports, analysis, and monitor progress.
  • Provide customer outreach and service at all levels and market segments.
  • Keep all relevant AIAA teams apprised of program/project efforts and status.
  • Support Director, Publications and all Publications managers in various facets of product development, analysis, delivery, and external stakeholder support.
  • Occasional travel required.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience supporting online content repositories, online publications, content management systems, or content-rich websites.
  • Familiarity with print and electronic journal and book publishing preferred.
  • Familiarity with Atypon’s Experience Platform (aka Literatum) CMS preferred.

Additional Skills Required:

  • Exceptional customer relations skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with database software(s) and XML coding; SQL experience helpful.
  • Superior project management ability, including planning, scheduling, organization, problem solving, maintaining focus, and monitoring project performance.
  • Understanding of electronic information media and awareness of related technical and industry trends and issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed quality-assurance attitude and skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as cooperatively with teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced Web application experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of UX/UI best practices.
  • Intermediate HTML and CSS skills.
