Role:
Member Service Representatives are responsible for providing excellent member service and maintaining strong professional relationships. They assist members with new loans and products, open accounts, advise on the status of accounts, furnish information on loans, products, fees and services. They courteously and promptly resolve member questions and problems or properly refer them to appropriate personnel. They may advise on more complex products. They are very likely to have sales goals.
Duties include the following:
  • Partners with members to identify cross-sell opportunities by actively listening to the members' needs. Once the need is identified, educate the member on the features and benefits of the service/product and ask for the business.
  • Performs member transactions and account maintenance as requested while adhering to Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Interviews, take loan applications, verifies credit criteria, and determines the appropriate loan offer to submit to underwriting for review. Processes loan documents for closing.
  • Opens share accounts and provides members with all necessary information for membership. Keeps members informed of Credit Union services and policies, including types of available accounts, interest rates, payroll options, and other related services.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
  • Provides backup to Tellers.

Experience:
6 months to 2 years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education:
High school education or GED
Interpersonal Skills:
A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
Physical Requirements :
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Vision: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation or machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements:
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
