Responsibilities
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Manager, Benefits, the Sr. Benefits Administrator position is responsible for managing and administering the day-to-day operations of all group benefits programs. This includes health insurance retirement plans, wellness programs, short-term and long-term disability, workers’ compensation, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, etc. This position requires an acute attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. The administrator continually investigates new benefits programs, improves existing programs, and supervises and monitors all benefits administration
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee the day-to day operations of all employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans and wellness initiatives.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partner’s to enhance employees understanding of the benefits package.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries, issues, and claims and assist in resolving employee issues and/or escalating to Manager, Benefits.
- Provide guidance and support to employees regarding benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, EAP, LOA, STD, LTD, and FMLA.
- Performs quality checks/audits of benefits-related data to ensure the accuracy of all benefit related data in the HRIS system to provide stakeholders (vendors, brokers, finance) with accurate demographic, eligibility, enrollment, and premium information.
- Responsible for bi-weekly 401(k) contribution reconciliation and funding. Performs audits to ensure the accuracy of demographic, employment, and enrollment data between 401(k) record-keeper and HRIS/Payroll system.
- Creates, maintains, and disseminates material for benefit orientations, annual enrollment, and summary plan descriptions. Revises and reissues all communications material on benefits from time to time.
- Assists and coordinates the annual open enrollment process with the Manager, Benefits, including communication, education, and enrollment activities.
- Prepares compliance reporting required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and ACA, DOL, IRS.
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
- Assists in plan audits and discrimination testing.
- Collaborates with the HRIS and Payroll teams.
- Oversees and processes monthly vendor invoices to be sent to AP.
- Undertake other ad hoc assignments, as required
Qualifications
Experience/Qualifications/Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field and 5-7 years’ experience in benefits administration.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP and CEBS professional designations preferred.
- Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills in a corporate environment.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases.
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs, including Health Care Reform, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, SECTION 125, Workers Compensation, Medicare, Social Security and DOL requirements.
- Sound business acumen and well-developed assessment, judgment, and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.
- Ability to evaluate and make judgment on the plan’s administration.
- Must possess exceptional organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to balance and prioritize simultaneous projects and tasks.
- Willing to be coached and mentored, while being extremely adaptable and flexible.
The expected starting pay range for this role is $90,000 - $120,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits, family care benefits, employee assistance program, paid time off and bonding leave, paid holidays, 401(k)/RRSP retirement savings plan with employer contribution, and employee referral bonuses.
