ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYThe Treasury Accountant reports to the Controller, providing high level administrative support in analytical review of accounts and treasury management. The Accountant will monitor and reconcile account balances, support bank account openings and relationships, and monitor/communicate cash needs and foreign exchange trends. The Accountant will also process invoices and journal entries, ensuring documentation complies with prime funder requirements and Internews policy.LOGISTICSInternews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. We are an EEO employer and encourage candidates of all races, genders, ages, orientations, ethnicities, and national origins to apply, and welcome those with alternative backgrounds and experiences.DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:Reporting (Internal and External)Assists Controller in completing complex financial and treasury reporting for Senior Staff.Maintains a dashboard of financial KPIs by gathering and organizing data from accounting software and banking or investment platforms.Prepares regular cash flow and treasury reports.AccountingPrepares and processes invoices, journal entries, and cash receipts.Performs monthly and quarterly bank reconciliations.Reviews balance sheet accounts and creates schedules for reconciliations.Performs month-end close tasks, including calculation of foreign exchange reevaluation, and supports year-end accrual process.Assists with tracking all balance sheet account reconciliations.Assists with DBA insurance self-audit and reconciliations.TreasuryMonitors and projects cash needs and supports general bank account management, communicating findings to Controller.Downloads and files monthly bank account statements for reconciliation and audit records.Researches foreign exchange rates and trends and summarizes data for use in business decisions.Supports Controller in managing strong relationships with banks to facilitate payments and streamline operations.Prepares and administers bank account documentation related to corporate resolutions, bank service agreements, and authorized signers.Supports daily cash positioning activities, including managing daily liquidity, cash position reconciliation, and bank reporting.Supports opening of new domestic and international bank accounts.Assists with risk management by identifying and recommending strategies to minimize foreign currency, bank fee, and interest rate exposures.Program Finance SupportSupports program management teams to resolve accounting issues.Assists local finance teams in reviewing banking terms to reduce loss and assess risk due to foreign exchange rates.AuditAssists with audit preparation and compliance, including gathering, organizing, and creating supporting schedules and other documentation.Ensures reconciliations are adequately completed and filed for annual audit.TrainingAs requested, provides training and guidance to colleagues on expense reimbursement processing, gene al ledger entries, and accounting procedures and policies.Values and FlexibilityIn all duties, uphold Internews' Core Values {target="_blank"}and demonstrate commitment to fostering a culture of belonging.QUALIFICATIONS WE'RE LOOKING FORRequiredUniversity degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.Three years' prior relevant experience in finance and accounting.Professional fluency in English (written and spoken).Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, and ERP.Excellent writing and editing skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proven ability to draw on past experience to define issues and present solutions.Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proven ability to explain policy and practice with diplomacy and tact.Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to effectively manage a dynamic workload and shifting priorities.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.Proven ability to operate in a multicultural and remote work environment.Flexibility to work outside traditional office hours as required.PreferredNote: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.Prior experience working for an international nonprofit or in the international development sector.Prior experience supporting multi-currency payments.Prior experience with international wire transfer and complex banking requests.Experience working with remote teams.Familiarity with Unit 4 ERP accounting software.Working knowledge of Uniform Guidance 2CRF200.This is an hourly, non-exempt position; the range for this position is equivalent to US $28.08 - $30.53 per annum.
