Director of Clinical Quality & Safety Improvement

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $178,500 - $215,000

Job Summary: We are seeking a director to oversee clinical quality and patient safety management programs. Responsibilities include managing budgets, evaluations, education initiatives, outcome measurements, and improvement strategies related to clinical practices, accreditation, regulatory compliance, risk management, and infection prevention.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Development: Mentor and develop staff, foster collaboration, and ensure performance management.
  • Operations Management: Oversee multiple units, ensure alignment with business strategies, and manage resources effectively.
  • Quality Improvement: Direct data collection and analysis, oversee quality improvement reporting, and manage risk management efforts.
  • Standards & Compliance: Establish standards for quality improvement metrics, integrate performance metrics, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Program Development: Implement new technologies and methods, advise on data-driven improvement principles, and consult with stakeholders on quality improvement processes.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Provide consultation on policies and regulations, engage in internal and external committees, and address systematic barriers to process improvement.
  • Continuous Learning: Define standards for performance reviews, develop corrective action plans, and present performance reports to senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 2+ years managing operational or project budgets.
    • 5+ years in a leadership role with direct reports.
    • 2+ years with databases, spreadsheets, or continuous quality improvement tools.
    • 7+ years in a clinical setting or healthcare administration.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or related field with 8+ years in healthcare quality assurance/improvement or 11+ years of related experience.
  • Certifications:
    • Professional Healthcare Quality Certificate, Professional in Patient Safety Certificate, or Professional in Healthcare Risk Management Certificate within 24 months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Joint Commission, CMS survey experience.
  • 5+ years of leading direct reports.
  • RN and clinical experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • CPHQ, HRO Experience, Team Stepps, formal lean training.

Position Overview:

  • Oversee clinical quality department
  • Lead a team of 9 direct reports and subdepartments including Stroke, Sepsis, and Bariatrics Certification programs.
  • Manage peer review and department review processes.
  • Enhance compliance and patient safety in collaboration with medical center leadership and front-line staff.
  • Responsible for Leapfrog, Joint Commission, Core Measures, and CMS surveys/scores.
