Structured has an immediate opening in Clackamas, Oregon for a Senior Network Engineer. This position is required to execute all technical components of an enterprise sales and delivery cycle. These components include architecting complex solutions, providing demonstrations and presentations, leading technical discussions, developing product customizations, planning and executing customer proof of concepts, providing product training and support, and leading rapid deployment efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs, installs, configures, troubleshoots and manages networking solutions.
  • Researches, evaluates, and recommends the selection of network-related tools and emerging technologies for clients.
  • Interfacing with end-users for the purpose of designing and implementing networking solutions and policy recommendations.
  • Translating business requirements into functional/technical specifications.
  • Develops solution implementation plans for customers.
  • Responsible for increasing the probability of system success, reducing risk and reducing total life-cycle cost.
  • Responsible for creating alternative designs to satisfy performance and cost criteria for customers.
  • Assists engineers with complex technical tasks including debugging, supporting hardware modules and systems.
  • Identifies and corrects faults and provides resolution of complex problem tickets escalated from Structured’s Managed Services team.
  • Manage client situations in a professional and courteous business manner with an emphasis on customer satisfaction, while timely keeping the customer abreast of expectations, problem status and completion.
  • Effectively communicate Structured’s value proposition through Power Point presentations, proposals, and development of collateral as needed to drive the sales and branding of Structured.
  • Assists sales personnel with pre-sales technical support; leverage technical background to identify professional service opportunities in the areas of security, networking, storage/systems, virtualization, and voice/mobility.
  • Supervising and checking the status of projects and work assignments.
  • Documents designs and scopes projects in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
  • Supports and provides knowledge transfer to clients.
  • Provides input for professional service statements of work (“SOW”) and creates SOW’s as directed and provide project management services (as needed).
  • Responsible for following the current policies and procedures for tracking your activities in our CRM tool, Salesforce.com.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Promotes and maintains a high standard of customer service at all times.
  • Ability to maintain and continually develop accurate product and application knowledge.
  • Overcome technical and business objections posed by prospective customers.
  • Proactively learn and utilize new technologies, concepts and procedures as necessary based upon project requirements.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of an organization from end-user to senior management about both business and IT needs.
  • Excellent project management, project scoping, troubleshooting, problem resolution, documentation and customer management skills.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in information systems or equivalent experience. At least 12+ years of experience in a technology-related field, including 7+ years of experience in systems analysis. Previous experience providing solution design and implementation preferred.

  • Expertise in physical networking media, interfaces, and connectors. Knowledge of cabling standards, optical fiber technology, and troubleshooting physical connectivity.
  • Proficiency in VLANs, STP (Spanning Tree Protocol), Ethernet technologies, and layer 2 security. Experience with Ethernet, frame relay, and ATM technologies.
  • Advanced routing protocols knowledge such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and MPLS. Expertise in IP addressing, subnetting, VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding), and IPv4/IPv6 transitions.
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper Networks, Arista, Aruba Networking, etc. Preferred certifications include CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of SDN principles and controllers like Cisco ACI, VMware NSX.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and security protocols. Understanding of security best practices.
  • Experienced knowledge in advanced switch configuration, QoS, PoE, and multicast technologies.
  • Experience with MPLS, SD-WAN, WAN optimization, and remote access solutions.
  • Knowledge of spine-leaf designs, high-availability configurations, and interconnectivity (VXLAN, EVPN).
  • Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM.
  • Understanding of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and cloud networking in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Skills in Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and scripting languages (Python, Perl, Shell).
  • Proficiency in tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, or PRTG.
  • Experience with change control and change management, documentation, and process automation.

General Office Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be an experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with customer relationship management (CRM) tools, such as Salesforce.com.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret quotes and reports. Ability to correspond, effectively present information, and respond to questions from employees, management, vendors and clients.

Work is performed in both a general office environment, as well as a data center environment. Within the general office environment both the lighting and temperature are generally moderate. The data center environment is generally cool in temperature and the lighting is moderate; the noise level in the data center environment is generally loud.

Must have a valid Driver’s License and motor vehicle insurance (at least equal to the state’s minimum coverage requirements), as well as, and the ability to travel to customer locations and other destinations for short to medium term projects. This position may also require an adjusted work schedule and evening hours in order to meet or attend vendor/customer needs, as well as the flexibility to field phone calls, pager or system alerts and provide remote and/or on-site support to clients outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.

This position has no supervisor responsibilities.
