**Job Description:**
- Perform a wide array of laboratory procedures in all departments, exercising independent judgment and evaluating present procedures.
- Work closely with supervisors and coworkers to complete patient testing, quality control, correlation studies, and special projects.
- Actively participate in specimen collection procedures.
- Conduct interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Advocate to ensure privacy and confidentiality and maintain awareness.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ensure compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure.
- Comply with attendance and tardiness policies.
- Report incidents in a timely and effective manner.
- Engage in hand hygiene compliance.
- Identify patients and/or specimens appropriately prior to sample collection or analysis.
- Perform preventative maintenance on analyzers and resolve instrument errors.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot quality control values and take appropriate actions.
- Prioritize and analyze patient and proficiency samples efficiently.
- Notify clinicians of any abnormal results requiring immediate attention.
- Communicate relevant patient information to other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to obtain blood specimens.
- Educate patients and coworkers on correct specimen collection procedures.
- Provide assistance to coworkers and supervisors as necessary.
- Record and report accurate data, ensuring attention to detail and quality work.
- Acquire and apply knowledge of technological advances and regulatory matters.
- Enter and edit ordering information in computer systems for accurate testing and billing records.
- Orient and train new employees and students, and assist in educational activities.
- Use knowledge of testing to develop new protocols and curriculum.
- Utilize department supplies and reagents cost-effectively.
- Maintain a safe environment free of potential hazards for patients.
- Assure the physical security of children and follow related policies and procedures.
- Consider reduced endurance and strength in elderly patients and provide accommodations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, adapting to any hearing difficulties.
- Interpret verbal and nonverbal responses for pain management and minimize discomfort.
