Your Impact

We are in search of a Principal Data Engineering Lead who will play a pivotal role in constructing and managing a state-of-the-art cloud data platform. This hands-on role involves direct collaboration with our Enterprise Data Architect on design aspects, as well as leading and guiding an expanding team of data engineers. The data platform you help create will offer deeper understanding of our systems and data, providing our business with the crucial information required to fuel our ongoing growth.

What You’ll Do

Location: Remotely from US OR Onsite at our Scottsdale, AZ office

Reports to: Enterprise Data Engineer

  • Team Leader: As an Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for guiding a team of data engineers in the development and maintenance of a modern data warehouse using Snowflake and DBT. This includes setting team goals, coordinating tasks, and ensuring that all team members are working effectively towards the common objective.
  • Individual Contributor: Despite your leadership role, a key part of your role will be contributing individually to the team's projects. This will involve writing code, reviewing data models, or troubleshooting issues with the data warehouse, as part of this role you will wear the hat of DataOps Engineer, Data Engineer and Analyst.
  • Quality Control: You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the data warehouse. This includes implementing automated testing and release processes, monitoring system performance, and addressing any issues or anomalies that arise.
  • Growth Possibilities: As the Engineering Lead, you will have the opportunity to shape the data engineering team and warehouse's future. This could involve expanding the team, introducing new technologies, or developing new data products.
  • Success Metrics: Your success will be measured by the performance of the data warehouse (e.g., uptime, query performance, data accuracy), the success of your team's projects, and the professional growth of your team.
  • Tools: You will be working with a variety of tools, including Snowflake, DBT, and other data engineering tools.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience working with data as a software developer or data practitioner.
  • Experience building and maintaining modern data pipelines in the cloud at an Enterprise scale, ideally using Snowflake and DBT.
  • Skill for fostering high-performing engineering teams, with Software Engineering experience.
  • Proven experience working and leading teams with a mature DataOps process.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in constructing cloud data warehouses.
  • An excellent communicator and team player, capable of effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Have experience writing modern data pipelines deployed in the cloud.
  • Have worked on agile teams to deliver software iteratively.

Benefits listed herein may vary depending on the nature of your employment and the location where you work.

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 135,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 225,000 in the highest geographic market. The on target earnings range for this role is between USD 175,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 313,000 in the highest geographic market.
