POSITION PURPOSE
Prepare and serve food and beverages in the Microsoft Café on UW Campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service Orientation

  • Delivers Starbucks’ branded customer service by consistently evaluating the environment for cues
  • Delivers prompt service and quality beverages and products
  • Engages and educates customers about coffee-related topics
    Teamwork
  • Lead employees in food preparation, serving and/or dishwashing
  • At the beginning of the shift, assign Food Service Workers 1 and student staff to meet service needs for the shift.
  • Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others
  • Contributes to a positive team environment through cooperation and collaboration with coworkers
  • Builds effective working relationships to accomplish store tasks and goals
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace so staff can locate resources and product as needed
  • Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to set a positive example for the team
    Coffee, Espresso & Specialty Beverage Preparation
  • Prepares and serves quality beverages, whole bean and food products consistently for all customers
  • Monitors the preparation of beverages to insure that Starbucks standards for quality, portioning and consistency are followed, making corrections as needed
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues with espresso machine, grinder, and other related equipment
  • Performs bar duties and bar back when needed
    Cashier/Point of Sale Operation
  • Follows operational policies and procedures for cash handling and safety and security
  • Operates point of sale systems, keying in sales, taking payments and making change
  • Processes loyalty card transaction, including redemption of rewards
    Bar Back
  • Gathers customer pastry and food orders and package according to Starbucks specifications
  • Prepares hot foods to customer order and packages according to Starbucks specifications
  • Monitors the supply of foods ready for display/heating according to Starbucks specifications
    Stocking, Storage and Receiving
  • Completes order/inventory sheets to ensure adequate supply of items necessary for operation
  • Stocks food and beverage display areas according to current Starbucks specifications
  • Receives ordered materials, check purchase receipts and invoices; returns damaged goods
  • Stores merchandise received and rotates stock in refrigerators, freezers or storage rooms according to food handling guidelines and current Starbucks requirements
  • Monitors and handles prepared foods according to Starbucks instructions and for compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including taking and recording food temperatures before the food leaves the production area
  • Maintains compliance with state and institution policies regarding receipt, issuance and inventory of supplies, materials and equipment
    Cleanliness and Safety
  • Follows Starbucks guidelines for maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Closes down and and participates in the cleaning of the store and setting up the facility for the next shift Inspects food service equipment to determine proper care, use and operation; reports malfunctions
  • Reports operational and safety problems to store leadership promptly
    CBORD
  • Take inventory counts using tally sheets from CBORD FSS system.
  • Use recipes and production sheets from CBORD FSS to execute food preparation.
    Additional Duties:
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
  • Performs related duties as assigned
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment AND one year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage or equivalent education/experience.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate leadership, customer service and espresso experience in fast-paced environments, and who demonstrate a strong focus on teamwork and providing consistently high-quality products and service.
    CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.
  • The schedule is 7am- 3:30pm. Shift time may vary depending on operational conditions.
