Nestled in the heart of NOMAD, The Ivory Peacock is a cocktail-driven bar and restaurant with small plates that are French with Japanese influence.

The Ivory Peacock's heart is a beautiful raw bar program housed in its central horseshoe-shaped Emerald Oyster Bar that features an extensive, premium handcrafted cocktail program including the largest collection of gin in the United States that pairs perfectly alongside a seafood-driven menu of small plates, plateaus and shareable plates.

We are looking for a talented, personable and engaging Maitre D with strong guest recall. Your role will involve overseeing the host team while welcoming guests, seating key tables, and maximizing the selling potential of all areas of the restaurant.

This position is responsible for providing consistent leadership and support to the host team and assisting in the execution of the FOH operation. It also involves  ensuring the guests feel welcomed and are having a fantastic experience. The right candidate knows the NYC market well, comes with a rolodex of clients, and has a presence that makes all guests feel welcome. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all VIP guest relations
  • Curate, create, and expand upon guest lists, VIP guest experiences and overall guest experience
  • Drive repeat guest business and associated revenues
  • Greet and welcome guests and, at times, escort through the venue to respective table and area
  • Host key events, experiences, and holidays
  • Oversee VIP groups and events on-site
  • Supervise host/hostess team
  • Ensure proper guest experience and customer service is being provided by team
  • Handle host team scheduling and accountability  
  • Train new team members in the reservations and VIP guest management systems
  • Ensure that the tables are set up properly relative to each guests needs, requests, and expectations 
  • Organize reservations for each evening, connect personally with VIPs, and maintain/manage VIP guest SMS and phone communications  
  • Confirm reservations and effectively ensure the reservations flow maximizes seating potential
  • Control and coordinate all tables in designated VIP and members only sections

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and digital communication skills
  • Prior working knowledge of Resy and SevenRooms platforms preferred, but not required
  • POS programming acumen 
  • 3+ years of Maitre D’ and/or VIP host experience in a similar environment
  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree or Certification in Hospitality-related field or equivalent expertise gained from time on the job
  • English fluency and Spanish preferred, but not required 
  • Proficient in all standard POS systems, Microsoft office, computers
  • Possess all New York mandated food safety certifications
  • Experience in managing and maintaining all DOH food safety standards, requirements, policies and systems to adhere to them
  • Experience in following all NYS labor responsibilities, laws, requirements, regulations and policies

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand, lift and bend for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to bend and lift to 50 lbs.
  • Role may include job duties or tasks requiring repetitive motion, movement and navigation throughout a bilevel venue
  • Exposure to hot kitchen elements, raw foods, and/or cleaning materials.
  • Must be able to remain focused in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule inclusive of varying shifts such as days, evenings, weekends and holidays
